Across the Ashley River from downtown Charleston, Heathwood-Old Towne is defined by its single-family homes and streets lined with mature live oak trees. The neighborhood’s bungalow and ranch-style housing was built in the 1960s and 1970s. Still, buyers have been making renovations, and homes have been “moving fast,” as the area is close to some of Charleston’s historical attractions, medical facilities and good schools, says Randall Sandin, a Realtor with Carolina One Real Estate who has been selling in the area for 18 years.

Homes stay on the market for 30 days, under the national average of 46 days. Sandin says the neighborhood is popular with medical professionals as downtown Charleston is 5 miles east, while Bon Secours St Francis Hospital and MUSC University Hospital are also nearby. Sandin says the neighborhood is also not overseen by an official HOA but does have a voluntary association.
