Arbor Glen is the name of the eastern side of Reid Park, a historically African-American suburb with roots stretching back into the 1930s. Compared to Reid Park proper, though, homes in Arbor Glen are on the newer side, a wave of development coming through the neighborhood in the early 2000s. But homebuyers will still find plenty of vintage builds along Ross Avenue. And like their Reid Park neighbors, regardless of a home’s character, Arbor Glen residents enjoy easy access to a lot of Charlotte’s favorite destinations. “You’re able to get in and out of Charlotte Douglas International Airport and Uptown Charlotte quite easily, and you’re also very close to Interstate 77 and green spaces like Clanton Park and Irwin Creek Greenway,” says Mark Weinberg, broker with Carolina Sky Real Estate Group who has almost a decade of experience in working in the Charlotte area. Residents can also follow West Boulevard straight to Lower South End, a blossoming commercial neighborhood known for its breweries and vibrant nightlife.

Established and new homes are going fast
Arbor Glen is almost entirely residential, just between the Reid Park neighborhood and Clanton Park. Streets are well shaded with trees, which are as young or as mature as the homes they come with. Newer homes from around 2007 can be found around Spring Oak Drive. They follow Colonial Revival architecture, with two stories and sometimes elongated floorplans similar those of shotgun houses. Sidewalks are plentiful in this part of Arbor Glen. Established, modest cottages with 1,000 square feet of space or less line Ross Avenue, while townhouses and apartments can be found on the northeast side of the neighborhood. Prices typically range between $250,000 and $400,000, though buyers should note inventory is usually low in this small neighborhood.

Quirky restaurants in LoSo and quick eats on West Boulevard
Two Family Dollars can be found along West Boulevard. “You’re going to have to go more into South End to find grocery stores,” Weinberg says. Supermarkets such as Publix and Harris Teeter can be found in Lower South End (LoSo), but this area has really become a hub of local restaurants and breweries. Sycamore Brewery has got more than just craft beers on tap, the venue also hosts weekly yoga classes, a Wednesday evening run club and music bingo. For date night, residents can head down to Yamazaru Sushi & Sake, known not only for their rolls but also their deep-fried calamari and flavorful tonkotsu ramen.
