Ashley Park
Ashley Park offers newer builds alongside newer constructions and apartment complexes
Ashley Park offers a unique blend of established homes intertwined with newly constructed properties on the east side. Small cottages and ranch-styles dominate the area west of Berryhill Road, though newer Craftsman-styles and townhouses have also taken root in the Bryant Park subdivision. Luxury apartment complexes are present as well along West Morehead Street. Smaller, older homes tend to price between $100,000 and $300,000, while newer properties can range from $450,000 to $700,000. However, the rate of burglaries in Ashley Park is doubled with crime in the neighborhood being nearly twice the national average, according to the CAP index.Bar-B-Q King has been a neighborhood favorite since 1959
Though primarily residential at its core, Ashley Park is transforming into a legitimate destination for Charlotte foodies. "I think Ashley Park has become more of a food scene area versus the bars and breweries that Charlotte has focused on," Pettiford says. "There's a lot of food trucks in Ashley Park, a lot of hidden gems and there's also some mom-and-pop shops."One of those mom-and-pops is Bar-B-Q King on Wilkinson Boulevard. Featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, the family-run drive-in eatery has been serving the Charlotte area since 1959. Pinky's Westside Grill is another community favorite. Also featured on Guy Fieri's Food Network program, Pinky's offers a wide range of burgers and hot dogs along with a robust drink menu. Meanwhile, Legion Brewing's West Morehead location is revered for its craft beers and wood-fired pizzas, and the nearby Lucky Dog Bark is a staple for residents looking to grab a drink as their dogs get out the zoomies. For groceries, locals often stop by Walmart Supercenter, neighboring smaller retailers and chain restaurants. Additional shopping options can be found just north of the neighborhood at Freedom Village Shopping Center.West Charlotte High offers championship-winning athletics
Students in Ashley Park are served by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School District. Children from prekindergarten through Grade 8 can attend Ashley Park Elementary School in the heart of the neighborhood, earning an overall grade of C from Niche, before advancing to the C-minus-rated West Charlotte High School 4 miles north on Senior Drive. The high school offers a host of after-school clubs and organizations, including Future Business Leaders of America, as well as a competitive athletics program that won a state championship in boys basketball in 2022.Locals can hoop at Camp Greene Park or adventure through nature
Local athletes will have no issue finding a place to play in Ashley Park. Camp Greene Park on the northside features a playground and several basketball courts splattered in Charlotte Hornets colors. On the east side, Bryant Park contains a baseball diamond and sprawling greenspace suited for pickup soccer games along Stewart Creek, while the tranquil Irwin Creek Greenway sits just south of the neighborhood at Revolution Park. Golfers can book weekend tee times at the nearby Carolina Golf Club, and sports fanatics will be on cloud nine with Bank of America Stadium, the home of the Carolina Panthers, less than 2 miles east. The CATS bus comes in handy with the city a short trip away
Ashley Park isn't walkable, but does offer solid access to major roads. Just 2 miles outside of Uptown, residents can get to the city within 10 minutes by heading east on Wilkinson Boulevard. Charlotte Douglas International Airport also sits just 4 miles west, making for easy trips to the terminal. Ashley Park isn't known for its public transportation, but the CATS bus does come in handy, featuring stops along West Morehead Street, Wilkinson Boulevard and Ashley Road.
