Removed from Charlotte traffic

Back Creek Church Road forms the easternmost edge of Mecklenburg County. This growing area attracts newcomers with its access to amenities and modern homes with large footprints. Subdivisions branch off the area's main thoroughfare, extending east in large clusters of new builds. Living in Back Creek Church Road provides connectivity to Charlotte's premiere amenities and culture-rich neighborhoods but with more purchasing power than that in surrounding suburbs. Growing suburban developments

Back Creek Church Road's millennium mansions feature complex gabled roofs, four bedrooms, attached garages and modest manicured backyards. These modern homes were built within the last 20 years, providing buyers with a convenient turnkey move-in experience. Winding roads with maintained sidewalks make up the developments of the neighborhood's northern end, allowing residents to walk along the quiet streets free of through traffic. "It's a place that people gravitate to because it has easy access to the highway, but the traffic in-town is very minimal," notes Patty Sehorn of Urban Carolina Realtors. Back Creek Church Road home values range from $300,000 to $600,000, with a median of $400,000. In the southern part of the neighborhood, homes have more square footage and acreage and usually sell towards the high end of the range. A few Colonial and Greek Revivals peek out from the tall trees of the area, "giving the neighborhood an elite and important feeling," Sehorn says.

A thousand acres of green space

Reedy Creek Nature Center sits in the neighborhood's western corner and is the go-to spot for local outdoor activities. The land has been tended for since the 1700s, and some remnants of historical structures remain on-site. There are plenty of things to do at the 927-acre forested preserve. Baseball and Cricket fields, a sizeable playground and picnic shelters are scattered among the miles of heavily wooded hiking trails. Residents with green thumbs can also take up a plot at the Reedy Creek Community Garden, which has soil perfect for growing seasonal tomatoes and lettuce. Hodges Family Farm is another spot for locals to gather seasonally. The working farm holds Prime Market, a farmers' market, every Saturday in summer and fall. They also have a notable pumpkin patch event in the fall, bringing in families from many surrounding neighborhoods.

Two shopping hubs nearby

To the north of the neighborhood is University City. The University of North Carolina Charlotte campus and the academic town have cultivated a lively student culture with bars, dining hotspots and plenty of retail. The area also lodges several regional offices for Fortune 500 companies, feeding a booming regional economy. The nearby Walmart and retail shops populate the area, while Harrisburg is to the east of the neighborhood and supplies more local dining options. Harrisburg Family House, for one, serves classic homestyle meals in a no-frills diner. Pharr Mill Brewing and BBQ is a 4.6-star pub with a sunny patio where diners can enjoy its smoked wings and pulled pork tacos.
