Carmel, hidden in plain sight
Despite its scenic landscaping and abundance of shopping, Carmel is a Lower South (LoSo) Charlotte suburb that is often overlooked. Local Realtor Lindsay Patton with The Redbud Group says, “People typically stumble upon Carmel while traveling between popular destinations like SouthPark Mall, Carolina Place Mall, Montford and Park Road or Ballantyne.” Once discovered, Carmel draws homebuyers with its polished, secluded streetscapes. Here, residents can enjoy the peaceful lifestyle of rural living in a prime location near several amenity-rich destinations.

Stately Colonials and tip-top landscaping
Carmel’s stately Colonial-inspired homes line quiet roads that branch off the neighborhood’s main thoroughfare, Carmel Road. Newer builds are cropping up with time, adding depth to its midcentury landscapes. “My clients comment on how green and well-kept the landscaping is throughout the area, making it a beautiful place to drive through on your commute or if you are running errands,” Patton says. “The values of homes in Carmel have continued to rise and are often sold pretty quickly.” On the lower price end are ranch-style starter homes and town houses from the 1970s and 1980s; these properties typically list between $360,000 and $600,000. Four- to five-bedroom colonial estates and newly built custom homes usually start around $700,000 and can list up to $2 million.

Nature walks and rounds on the greens
Carmel's natural environment is influenced by the expansive parklands of two nearby golf clubs. Quail Hollow Club stretches over most of Carmel’s northern end. This historic location hosts the prestigious Wells Fargo Championship on the PGA Tour every May. Farther south is Carmel Country Club. In addition to its two premier golf courses, the sprawling 80-acre campus contains a state-of-the-art tennis complex. When residents want to get out into nature without a membership, they head to McMullen Creek Greenway, which traces Carmel’s western border. The wooded pathways of this nature preserve extend south, winding around Park Road, and are great for long hikes and bike rides. The greenway follows the McMullen Creek, so visitors occasionally stumble upon marsh wildlife when walking the trails.
Carmel residents have access to Quail Hollow Country Club as well as the Carmel Country Club.

Shopping at every turn off Pineville-Matthews Road
Patton says, “One of my favorite things about buying in Carmel is that pretty much no matter where you buy, you are going to be conveniently located next to a variety of shops, restaurants, and grocery stores.” Pineville-Matthews Road is Carmel’s dining and retail hotspot and also lodges the area’s medical facility in the west. Locals can choose from five retail centers within a 3-mile radius for a leisurely shopping day or head to popular destinations like SouthPark Mall and Carolina Place Mall, which are only 4 to 4 1/2 miles away. In Carmel Commons, residents stop in at Amélie’s French Bakery & Café for a pastry or grab a table at The Rusty Onion to dig into a fully customizable personal pizza paired with a local Carolina brew. Carmel Commons also has the closest grocery stores for locals who prefer to make their own meals. Shoppers can choose between local and wholesale options at The Fresh Market or Lidl.
