A neighborhood with connectivity and room to grow
Eastland-Wilora Lake takes half of its name from Eastland Mall, formerly North Carolina’s largest mall and soon-to-be site of a multi-sport complex and park. The other half comes from Wilora Lake, once a popular recreation spot for swimmers and anglers. Though the neighborhood’s name might suggest the community is stuck in the past, Eastland-Wilora Lake has its eyes set firmly toward the future. “The east side of Charlotte hasn’t grown the way that the rest of the city has, but it’s moving in that direction,” says Thomas White, Realtor with Re/Max who has been selling homes in The Queen City for the past 4 years. “I think that will bring a lot more people to this part of town, but for now, prices haven’t risen as fast as some neighborhoods, so you can still get a nice-sized home for an affordable price.”

Eclectic homes and private, shining lakes
As the name would imply, Eastland-Wilora Lake has a few bodies of water to spare. A few lakes can be found nestled between apartment complexes, townhouses and a few detached homes, and while these lakes aren’t available for boating or fishing, they contribute to the low noise levels within the center of the neighborhood. Aside from Verndale Road, most streets don’t come with sidewalks, though some are plenty wide to accommodate pedestrians and parked cars alike. When it comes to housing, homebuyers have a plenitude of options to choose from. “Most of the homes over there were built in the late ‘60s or ‘70s and are probably owned by the original owners who are getting up in age,” White says. “As they sell, some of the houses will get renovated so you have a good mix of newly renovated houses and ones that probably need a little bit of work. But if you’re willing to put the work into them, you can make them into nice homes.” Established homes tend to follow ranch-style, raised ranch-style and Colonial Revival designs. Some ranch homes show midcentury modern influence. Most go for between $270,000 and $400,000. Since 2023, several homes have been constructed, usually following New Traditional designs and selling for between $375,000 and $500,000. Townhouses can also be found on the market with a price range of $200,000 to $250,000.
