A blend of renovated historic homes and new construction

“Sometimes we say that neighborhoods and houses are charming because it’s a buzzword, but this is textbook charm,” says Andy Griesinger, a Realtor with eXp Realty Ballantyne. “All of the homes are a little bit older, and they have a really good feel to them.” Some homes here date back to the early 20th century, while others were built as recently as 2025. You’ll find classic Bungalows with low-pitched roofs sitting alongside symmetrical Colonial Revivals, towering Tudor Revivals and meticulous Craftsman homes. Many of them have fenced yards leading to wide streets lined with sidewalks that are shaded by mature magnolia, maple and oak trees. There are also townhouses and condo communities.

You’ll find an array of restaurants, bars and shops along every major thoroughfare in Elizabeth. “You’re right down the street from The Crunkleton, one of the top cocktail lounge restaurants,” Griesinger says. “Puerta is another really good one. Then there’s Rosemont, a wine bar. There’s Caswell Station, which is like a sports bar. There’s so much stuff right there, it’s a big reason people like that area. It’s super close to all the hotspots.” Menya Daruma is among the neighborhood’s most popular restaurants, serving traditional Japanese ramen. A friendly neighborhood known for long-standing community events

You’ll find a welcoming and friendly community here. “Everyone is out there walking their dogs and kids in their strollers. It’s the kind of neighborhood where you’re in the minority if you don’t know the neighbors,” Griesinger says. The neighborhood is well known for its Great Elizabeth Pumpkin Wall, a Halloween tradition in which residents fill a 60-foot shelving unit with over 100 carved and painted pumpkins. The voluntary Elizabeth Community Association organizes it, as well as many other annual events, like an 8K Road Race and an Easter Egg Hunt. "My favorite thing about Elizabeth is my neighbors, unquestionably," says Debbie Rubenstein, a 20-year resident and the association’s communications chair. "We love how neighborly it is and that people work really hard to make it a community."

One of Elizabeth's most popular amenities is the 24-acre Independence Park. "That park is the heart of the community," Rubenstein says. "It's probably the most used park by neighborhood residents, and it's where they host most of the community's events.” The green space features walking paths, a rose garden, sports fields, a playground and the Hawthorne Recreation Center. Another popular outdoor space is Elizabeth Park, where you can access the Little Sugar Creek Greenway for runs, walks and bike rides.
