Ray’s Splash Planet, located on the campus of Irwin Creek Academic Center, is an indoor waterpark and recreational facility that operates as a partnership between Park and Recreation and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. There’s light rail access on Trade Street and bus stops on nearly every block of Tryon. Locals can go grocery shopping at Harris Teeter, and the area has many unique shops and boutiques. A medley of familiar restaurant chains and homegrown dining spots can be found in Fourth Ward. “You'll find a lot of cafés and coffee shops here," Younts says. Alexander Michael’s (known among locals as Al Mikes) is housed in the historic building that served as The Berryhill Store, which opened in 1897. McNinch House Restaurant is a fine dining establishment located inside a restored 130-year-old Queen Anne. Dandelion Market is a local favorite for small plates and brunch. Crave Dessert Bar on West 5th Street is a local gathering spot that doesn’t just serve dessert.
