Living around Charlotte's "Central Park"
Directly south of Charlotte’s Center City, Freedom Park is the focal point of the Freedom Park neighborhood. Known as the “Central Park” of Charlotte, this 100-acre green space clasps a sweeping lake, miles of trails, playgrounds and other amped-up amenities. Leafy and convenient, residents relish ample shopping and dining in the community and neighboring Dilworth. “Freedom Park creates this central hub for people. It’s one of our largest parks as far as green space and there’s always something going on,” says Jessica Jenkins, a Realtor with Corcoran HM Properties, who lives in the area. “The greenway runs through the park and connects to several neighborhoods, so you can walk to all kinds of shops and restaurants. The park and greenway have a lively energy that's appealing to people.”

At the neighborhood’s namesake park on East Boulevard, residents can take the kids to the grid of soccer fields and tennis courts to blow off steam or go for a waterside hike beside Little Sugar Creek. It’s also the site of anticipated community events, ranging from neighborly outdoor movie nights to the annual Festival in the Park. The three-day celebration of art and music takes place every September and draws over 100,000 people.

Freedom Park offers everything from bungalows to luxury homes
Charlotte’s classic bungalows are prevalent in Freedom Park, but there are also grander colonials and other traditional styles of architecture featured throughout the neighborhood. Lofty oaks and maple trees stretch over compact yards forming shaded canopies over many of the quiet streets. “Around the Freedom Park area things are selling fast — within days,” Jenkins says. “In all of Charlotte right now, the average days-on-market is 27. Recently near Freedom Park, it’s a third of that or less.”Prices can range from $700,000 for a three-bedroom to well over $2 million for a stately five-bedroom. “The prices are higher there,” Jenkins says. “People are willing to pay more to live close to the park and there are a limited number of homes. It’s a sought-after area.”
