Recreation and walkability shape the Freedom Park lifestyle

Directly south of Uptown, Freedom Park offers that refined South Charlotte feel, with timeless homes resting on wide streets lined with mature trees. What sets it apart is its namesake park, known as Charlotte’s Central Park for its expansive size, range of amenities and big festivals. Home prices here reflect the neighborhood’s desirable location and lifestyle. Commutes to the Center City can take less than 15 minutes, and an array of restaurants and shops are within walking distance. A brand-new elementary school and a highly rated high school add to the enclave’s appeal.

Classical architecture and modern luxury on tree-shaded streets

Lofty oaks and maple trees form shaded canopies over many of the quiet streets of Freedom Park. Charlotte’s classic Craftsman bungalows are prevalent, but you’ll find other traditional styles of architecture throughout the neighborhood, from small cottages and Cape Cods to grander Colonial Revivals and custom modern mansions inspired by French Provincial design. Townhouses and condos offer less maintenance and amenities such as pools, fitness centers and private patios.

The median sale price here is around $1 million, more than double Charlotte ’s. “The prices are higher there,” says Jessica Jenkins, a Realtor with Corcoran HM Properties. “People are willing to pay more to live close to the park, and there are a limited number of homes. It’s a sought-after area.” Here’s how prices break down by home type:

  • Condos range from the upper $200,000s to well over $2 million.
  • Townhouses range from the lower $500,000s to nearly $1.5 million.
  • Detached homes range from the lower $700,000s to more than $4 million.
You’ll find lower prices nearby in Madison Park and Ashbrook-Clawson Village.

At the 100-acre Freedom Park, residents can take their kids to the playground or play a variety of sports from soccer and pickleball to baseball and volleyball. Paths loop around the park’s lake and bandshell, and one of its most beloved features is the Little Sugar Creek Greenway. “Freedom Park creates this central hub for people. It’s one of our largest parks as far as green space, and there’s always something going on,” Jenkins says. Highly anticipated community events are held here, such as the annual Festival in the Park. The three-day celebration of art and music takes place every September and draws over 100,000 people.
