Teardowns and new construction in Wendover-Sedgewood
Many new traditional homes sit along the streets on elegantly landscaped lots. Tudor and Cape Cod architectural elements adorn the neighborhood's new-fashioned homes, sitting next to modern Colonials and high-pitch-roofed Craftsman mansions. Though the new houses are large – almost always above 3,500 square feet, the space between homes is minimal. "Teardowns are happening everywhere. Some lots even allow subdivisions, and now two homes occupy the land where one once stood for decades," Rydell says. Prices are between $895,000 and $3.5 million, ranging from a 1950s ranch-style home to a much larger custom luxury build. A few clusters of townhouses are scattered throughout the neighborhood, with units in the $540,000 to $735,000 range. An updated skate park coming soon
Naomi Drenan Recreation Center and Grayson Skatepark is currently closed for renovation but is expected to reopen in the summer of 2025. In addition to the skate park, the public facility has tennis courts, basketball courts, and a baseball diamond. The recreation center has multipurpose rooms that residents can reserve. The Mint Museum owns the nearby Eastover Park with walking trails, including Brian Creek Greenway. This trail runs through the woods of tall maple trees alongside Briar Creek on the neighborhood's west end. Grier Heights Park is another nearby option, with the baseball fields at Randolph Road Park just a short walk away.
A high school training future professional athletes
Eastover Elementary earns an A-minus on Niche. Some elementary students will be zoned C-plus-rated Billingsville Elementary for kindergarten through second grade, then B-minus-rated Cotswold Elementary for Grades 3 through 5. Alexander Graham Middle receives a B-plus. Myers Park High has a campus of over 60 acres and 13 different buildings to emulate the environment of a small college campus. The school offers AP classes, a gifted program, various extracurricular clubs and competitive athletic teams. Several of its alums have gone on to play their sport professionally, including Drake Maye, the current quarterback of the New England Patriots. According to Niche, the A-rated school is ranked the 6th best public high school in Mecklenburg County.Open-air concerts and art showcases
The Mint Museum, North Carolina's first established art museum, has a Randolph location next to Wendover-Sedgewood. The gallery has international art showcases, educational programs, and live performances in the green space outside. Saturday yoga on the lawn and Sunday film screenings bring in crowds of residents looking for a way to appreciate all forms of art alongside community members.Convenient travel close by
