Yorkmount

Suburb offers many architectural styles
The Yorkmount suburb features older ranch-style and Colonial revival homes mixed with newer contemporary styles. Some residences don a splash of fresh paint and updates, while others showcase sturdy midcentury roots. Home prices range from $216,000 to $415,000, and buyers will find backyards that vary in size between .2 and .4 acres, enough room for a small garden or gathering area. With relatively low prices for a suburb so close to Charlotte’s center city, a growing demand and an influx of buyers drive an increasingly competitive market. "Many homes receive multiple offers, and most sell at or above the listing price within a month," says Dana Marchand at Allen Tate Realtors, who has been representing North Carolina and South Carolina markets since 2003.High school is a STEAME school
Yorkmount students can begin their education at Steele Creek Elementary, which has a C-plus grade from Niche. Alexander Graham Middle School has a B-plus grade. Olympic High School is a 21st-century STEAME school – science, technology, engineering, arts, math and EQ – with a B grade from Niche.Natural settings or an amusement park
In addition to a handful of small green pockets accompanying residential subdivisions, Yorkmount residents can visit Renaissance Park, which offers a golf course, bike trails, as well as facilities for tennis, soccer and volleyball. Little Sugar Creek Greenway extends nearly 4 miles from Brandywine Road to 7th Street in Charlotte, connecting numerous attractions such as Freedom Park and Charlotte Nature Museum. The many segments of the greenway create a corridor for walking, biking and running. Residents can drive 8 miles via Interstate 77 South to Carowinds, which opened in 1973. This popular amusement park houses award-winning thrill rides, a waterpark and onsite hotels and campsites.
Shopping and dining only a few miles away
Yorkmount residents don't need to travel far for errands and dining. "It's a very established area, close to plenty of shopping and uptown," Marchand says. Publix, Walmart and Lowe's Home Improvement are nearby, all conveniently lodged within the Whitehall Commons Shopping Center, a 3-mile drive on local streets. Chain restaurants are also abundant in this retail plaza, with several options for quick meals on the go. Ayrsley is another popular destination for retail. For entertainment and dining, the Piedmont Social House, located in a mixed-use development center, offers dining, a lounge, a pub, a tap room, bowling and a social room for all sorts of gaming.
Many commuting options
Yorkmount is home to several corporate offices and a 7-mile drive via I-77 North to uptown, Charlotte's bustling business district. Locals are close to SouthPark Mall, the Queen City's largest shopping destination, and Charlotte Premium Outlets. The Charlotte Douglas International Airport is an 8-mile drive on back roads. Residents are convenient to interstates 485 and 77 for easy commutes around town. Those who prefer public transit will find a bus stop on any of the main thoroughfares.
