Growing subdivisions between the city and the river
A growing community bookended by Charlotte's beloved amusement park and the lush shoreline of the Catawba River, Yorkshire, is the last stop before reaching South Carolina. This dynamic location has experienced a population increase that echoes the Queen City's overall boom. "Many people are looking for properties close to the water, but without the price tag of being right on it," says local Realtor Melissa Berens at The Redbud Group. Growing subdivisions on winding roads fill the remaining space outside industrial parks and shopping centers to the east and west. Sitting on the outskirts of bustling Uptown, Yorkshire provides a short drive from the city's action in the north and the nearby river in the south.
Yorkshire has a master community plan to take advantage of the abundance of property.

Move-in-ready designs with modern floorplans
Yorkshire architecture introduces simple brick and vinyl townhouses and sleek new traditional builds. Many subdivisions here date to the early 2000s, providing homeowners with modern floor plans and updated finishes. Property values start around $300,000 and reach up to $600,000. Towards the lower end, buyers can find a modest townhouse in a sidewalk community or single-story ranches with cross-gabled roofs. The median single-family is $450,000, providing a turnkey experience in uniform houses with small yards in winding subdivisions. A few large brick Colonial Revivals and modern homes with farmhouse and Craftsman inspiration exist on the higher end of the scale. Some neighborhoods have sidewalks, but even in those without, residents can stroll along the quiet residential streets free of through traffic.

Many students continue their education at Southwest Middle School, which has one of the best orchestra programs in the state and is rated a C-plus by Niche. Olympic High School rounds out the bunch and has a grade of B.

McDowell Nature Preserve is a stone's throw away from Yorkshire locals. Locals visit to hike its miles of winding wooded trails, hedged with towering oaks and lofty evergreens. In the spring, vibrant blooms of wildflowers unfurl over the park's rugged terrain. The Walker Branch Greenway is a short but scenic footpath for some fresh air in town, ideal for gentle hikes and bike rides. Yorkshire is also home to Steele Creek Athletic Association, a mainstay that has hosted neighborhood ball games for almost 70 years. The volunteer-run nonprofit coordinates a full youth sports schedule and is a popular community gathering place.

Convenient to Yorkshire residents is Rivergate Shopping Mall, situated right at the western corner of the neighborhood, intersecting with South Tryon Street. Locals head north for grocery shops at Harris Teeter or Publix. A Home Depot, Target and familiar retail stores also line the hub. Hungry locals head to A Piece of Havana, the neighborhood's go-to dinner spot. The vibrant, locally-owned Cuban restaurant is best known for its live music on Fridays and Saturdays. Lucky Dog Bark and Brew's newest location sits on South Lake Drive. Here, beer lovers can sip on the latest IPA and set their dogs free in the large play yard attached. Charlotte's Center City is about 30 minutes away, bringing in Yorkshire residents for date nights, concerts, and festivals.

A straightforward 15-mile ride on Interstate 77 will land commuters in the heart of Uptown. Realtor Berens adds, "Residents here can bypass highway congestion through an alternate route on South Tryon Street. It's a great place to relocate to for those wanting to get away from the usual traffic of south Charlotte." Charlotte Area Transit System services the community with bus stops, and the Charlotte Douglas International Airport is 30 minutes north.

I haven't had a problem to where I need to call police, but we have a police station in the area and it feels like in every neighborhood, there is at least one police officer who lives there. It makes me and my family feel very safe.

My community is average you have your usual neighbors who walk their dogs, watch their children play outside, and are friendly to others. A lot of people that I know that lived in my community stayed in their homes for a long time until they either had financial difficulties or better job opportunities else where.
