Older coastal suburb experiencing a resurgence
Murray Hills is an eclectic suburb located just outside of Chattanooga. Following Highway 58’s relocation in 1940 to accommodate the Chickamauga Dam project, several suburbs began popping up around the new highway. Today, Murray Hills still has many of its original homes, but new construction is ongoing on the east end of the neighborhood. “The area is becoming more popular because of its proximity to jobs and downtown,” says Marcia Casteel, a Realtor with Keller Williams Realty, who lives nearby and has been selling homes in the area for over 10 years.
Murray Hills sits just North of 58 and has access to stores and the water.

Easy commuting to nearby job opportunities
Murray Hills is mostly car-dependent with Highway 58 located just south of the neighborhood homes. For job opportunities, an industrial park is 3 miles east with companies like Volkswagen and Amazon, and downtown Chattanooga is 7 miles west. The Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport is 3 miles south and takes about 10 minutes by car.
Mid-20th-century homes and new craftsman styles
Homes here are congregated along traditional suburban gridded streets with cul-de-sacs. Murray Hills features mid-20th-century homes and new craftsman-style properties built within the last five years. For vehicle parking, houses have driveways, and some styles include multi-car garages. These properties don’t stay on the market long, usually selling after just two weeks. Homes in Murray Hills typically sell for between $250,000 to $500,000.

Chickamauga Lake, Tennessee Riverpark and Murray Hills Park
Chickamauga Lake borders the neighborhood and provides plenty of opportunities for boating, fishing and swimming. “Even if you don’t have direct access to the lake from your property, it’s just a short drive away,” says Casteel. Tennessee Riverpark is a 150-acre urban greenway with 13 miles of trails along the Tennessee River. The regional park also offers fishing piers, boat launches, art installations and a playground. The Chickamauga Dam Day Use Area is another nearby park with fishing opportunities, a playground, a boat launch and a paved walking path.
