This rural pocket known for its once-prominent cherry orchards provides an escape from the busier portions of Southern California. “Those who seek out Cherry Valley enjoy the mountainscape and their proximity to the foothills,” says Georgann Hamilton, a broker with Cherry Valley Realty. Situated along the San Gorgonio Pass, this community is bounded by the San Jacinto mountains to the north and the San Bernardino mountains to the south. Featuring large expanses of desert farmland in between, it’s not uncommon to spot horses grazing in the distance. “People like it here because it’s more rural and the tax base is a little lower than, say, Beaumont,” adds Hamilton, who’s also a Cherry Valley resident and whose parents live in one of the local communities for adults ages 55 and older. “I personally like it. I live here, too, because I have horses. You just have more privacy.” Although the proximity to Interstate 10 provides a direct connection to San Bernardino and Riverside, Cherry Valley is more than 25- miles -from the Inland Empire’s two major population centers and nearly 80 miles from Los Angeles. Cherry Valley may not have the same bustle as its surrounding communities, but those who live here enjoy the privacy and space. As one long-time businessman said, the community provides everybody with “a little bit of elbow room.
