A rural woodsy town outside Worcester
Cherry Valley is a small community with lots of natural land and old but well-kept homes. Cherry Valley has a small public school district, lots of road access and acres of green space and trees. Three main waterfronts provide fishing spots between the small neighborhoods. Susane Hall, director of the nearby Leicester Library, says “It’s an old town with a lot of history. A large portion of people grew up here.” A central location between Leicester's suburbs and Worcester's city, the area provides rural woody views with a short drive to urban areas. Tarentino Community Field provides an area for most recreational sports and a community program that includes field trips. Worcester is only 7 miles away, making shopping and dining easy to find, while locally farmed dairy, eggs and meat can be found at Cooper’s Hilltop Farm.
Upkept old houses with acres of green space
Cherry Valley’s small neighborhoods lend themselves to large swaths of green space with no more than 30 to 40 houses spread between patches of grass and trees. Winding roads separate sections of the neighborhood, and large multistory homes sit in the middle of at least half an acre of lawn and wooded plots. Homes in the area were built anywhere between 1840 and 2023. Styles include Cape Cod split-levels, contemporary ranches and colonial homes and revivals. Upkeep is the main factor in prices; some farmhouses and ranches from 1880 up to 1950 cost around $200,000, but these primarily need renovation. Larger properties with more decorative architecture and updated features, such as older colonial estates or waterfront Cape Cod homes, cost around $650,000. The area also has a senior living community, Briarcliff Estates, with around 40 homes.

Fishing and community sports in Leicester
Driving around the Cherry Valley area can offer a good view of nature with expanses of east coast forests and open green fields, but several ponds and parks are available for locals and visitors. Waite Pond, Lynde Brook Reservoir and Smith’s Pond serve as bankside fishing spots, offering tree-shaded seclusion between neighborhoods where anglers can reel in largemouth bass year-round. Tarentino Community Field offers a central area for sports and recreation, hosting playgrounds and fields for baseball, soccer, football, tennis, and pickleball. The park also hosts field trips where community members can take luxury buses to New York City and Hampton Beach destinations. Leicester Bark Park also offers a great local area for pet parents to let their dogs run free and play.

Rural town 15 minutes from Worcester
Cherry Valley has plenty of road access as a car-reliant area. The neighborhood is only 2 miles from Leicester and just 4 miles outside of Worcester Regional Airport. Main Street makes travel easy as it runs through the main residential area and provides a 7-mile drive to Worcester. A few bus stops run along Main Street, but none are located outside this main road cutting through the city.
Local convenience and generations of community farming
Local convenience stores like the Valley Mart provide quick shopping options. Susane Hall says the area “does have good restaurants, like Eller’s. It’s a family place and a casual restaurant.” Walmart sits just outside Leicester, and other shopping options like an Asian supermarket and Shaw’s grocery store are available in Worcester. For locally farmed milk, meat and eggs, folks can go to Cooper’s Hilltop Farm, which has provided for the area for four generations. Locals can also go to Barber’s Crossing Roadhouse, a classical American restaurant with a menu ranging from lobster to club sandwiches.
