Industrial to residential in twenty years
Cragin is a growing Chicago neighborhood of grid streets mixing old manufacturing areas with commercial hubs and modest residential blocks. With a history of industry and active community organizations, the neighborhood has seen much population growth in the last two decades. Lincoln Park Zoo sits just east and Schiller Woods to the west, providing recreational opportunities for locals and visitors. Within Chicago, there's no shortage of retail or career opportunities, and the grid layout of the neighborhood makes it easily walkable, along with plenty of public transportation.

A modest family neighborhood with city benefits
Cragin is known for its modest home styles, with bungalows and Cape Cod-style houses dominating the architectural theme. "People are looking for consistent prices and a place to live for a long time. This is a family-oriented neighborhood, so people come here to stay," says Chicago Realtor of more than 14 years, Ana Sandoval. With a streetscape alternating between commercial stores, apartment buildings, and brick-sided family homes, all locals' needs are within walking distance. As it's relatively rural, yards are often compact. Houses tend to have the same exterior as many finished brick and stone buildings around them. Many multi-unit buildings are available between the prices of $300,000 and $800,000, but those looking for a single-family home may find a three or four-bedroom residence from $300,000 to $500,000 and condos sometimes run from $100,000 to $500,000.
Single family residences are common throughout the neighborhood of Cragin.

Boundless opportunities for retail and work
"Cragin is a diverse neighborhood with a lot to offer. You can go to these classical American diners and then walk around the corner and see a Polish restaurant and a taco shop," says Sandoval. For easy grocery access, a Walmart Supercenter sits just to the east, and Aldi's, Tony's Fresh Market and Fresh Market Place lie to the west. Due to its location in the city, Cragin hardly lacks variety in its retail options, with several shops and about a dozen restaurants within the neighborhood, with Hangry's being notable. As one of the country's largest cities, Chicago provides a variety of job and career opportunities. The city has a significant financial sector and includes five major economic exchanges. Some of the world's largest corporations, including United Airlines and energy company Exelon, have headquarters in the city. The area's primary employers include neighborhood schools, manufacturing businesses and local healthcare facilities, making jobs relatively easy to find near home.
