A Southside hidden pocket
Scottsdale is a secret spot of Chicago's southside, offering desirable amenities for those looking for a suburban feel. “That community is very rare because it gives the feel of a suburb. It gives a balance of suburb with the schools, restaurants, people flock over there,” says Tish Herrera, realtor with Baird and Warner Gold Coast. This suburb sits 15 miles south of Chicago Midway International Airport and several shopping spots off Cicero Avenue. The friendly neighbors and protective environment are reasons residents love to stay. “Those houses go quick because it’s like an encapsulated area,” Herrera says.
Ranches and Tri-levels with private driveways
Condos are frequently placed on the north end of the neighborhood. Some are brick high rises, while others are low rises with balconies, porches, and landscaped common areas. These condos are priced under $200,000. “The type of houses you find there would be raised ranches or tri levels, what you would find in a suburb,” Herrera says. Tri-level homes and ranches are neutral tones, primarily built in the midcentury. The 1,200 to 1,500 square foot space includes three bedrooms. “Each of those homes has driveways; normally, you don’t find that in the city,” Herrera says. A rare find is a two-story property with 2,000 square feet of space. These detached homes are priced above $225,000 and go to $400,000.

Culture cuisines along South Pulaski Rd and Cicero Ave
Scottsdale restaurants are mainly located on South Pulaski Road and Cicero Ave. “A lot of Mexican restaurants and seafood restaurants,” Herrera says. El Taco Sabroso serves flavorful tacos at affordable prices. Mr. Submarine is a casual fast-food spot that serves sandwiches and salads. Shopping essentials like household items and groceries can be found at Jewel-Osco, Costco and Target. The Ford City Mall occupies much of the neighborhood’s northwest corner, offering an AMC and popular retailers such as JCPenney, Old Navy and Victoria’s Secret. The northeast corner is an industrial park with logistics and distribution companies.

Midway, Metra and Interstate within 10 miles
Commuters who need to get to the city area have multiple bus stop options. The Ashburn Metra Station is located one mile east. From there, it’s a 30-minute ride to Union Station. Chicago’s Midway International Airport sits only five miles north for residents. Seven airlines fly to over 80 destinations. “You have access to Interstate 55, which runs north and south,” Herrera says. “It takes you to the city, and the south takes you to the southwest suburbs and St Louis, Missouri.”
