Community-oriented suburban living in Mobile

Chickasaw, a suburb of Mobile, may provide a calm refuge from city life. The close-knit small town brims with community events from those regularly scheduled to annual holiday celebrations where residents can meet one another. The town also features strip mall retail and a range of recreation in the town’s various parks, including water access on Chickasaw Creek.

Ranch-styles and single-family bungalows

North of Mobile, Chickasaw is composed of the main thoroughfare of North Craft Highway dotted with businesses and residential blocks lined with single-family homes. Although the area isn’t very walkable, it has a spacious feel with large yards that tend to have towering trees and bushes in them. There are also a few streets along Chickasaw Creek for views of the flowing stream. Architectural styles include bungalows, ranch-style homes, Italianate homes featuring corbels and historical farmhouses. “It’s a more affordable area with mostly older homes but many refurbished and updated,” says team leader Elaine Sessions who has 15 years of experience and works with The Sessions Team at Roberts Brothers West office. Sales prices can range from $70,000 for a two-bedroom bungalow to $409,000 for a three-bedroom waterfront bungalow on Chickasaw Creek.

Transportation around Chickasaw

About 7 miles from downtown Mobile, residents of Chickasaw can easily commute to the big city via Interstate 165 South by car since there’s no public transit in the area. “It’s close to the interstate and easy to get to north Mobile plants like the still mill. People in working in the northern part of the county like to live there,” Sessions says. As for a nearby hospital, locals can go to Mobile Infirmary. Residents can also access the Mobile International Airport 12 miles from the community for further travel from business trips to vacations.

Shopping at Chickasaw Plaza

Much of the community’s retail lies in Chickasaw Plaza strip mall. Dollar Tree has groceries, then people can head next door to Walgreens for a pharmacy. As for eateries, family-owned East Coast serves Chinese food in a no-frills interior and has a delivery option. At Shipyard Café, locals order comfort food meals in a casual atmosphere filled with booth seating. For fast food, residents can visit the town’s Whataburger.

On a hot summer’s day, residents can visit Chickasaw Pool, a public pool where people can go swimming and cool off. Annual community gatherings in Chickasaw

“They have a fire department and a city hall that have a lot of activities and craft shows,” Sessions says. A friendly community, Chickasaw offers abundant gatherings: dog park meetings, monthly farmers markets with goods from local vendors and 4th of July in the park. The town truly comes together for the holidays with festivities including the Lighting of the Community Christmas Tree complete with hot chocolate and photos with Santa.
