Carbon Canyon scenery and seclusion
Sleepy Hollow, founded in 1923, was the first subdivision in the area. It started as a tract of cabins, a weekend retreat from the fast pace of Los Angeles. Set amid the scenery of Carbon Canyon, the neighborhood is sometimes referred to as a hamlet. "We have many longtime residents as well as people who come here to escape the stress of city living," says Christian Fuentes, co-owner of Re/Max Top Producers, and an award-winning team leader. "People move here for the peace and the proximity to nature. There's an abundance of wildlife. You get the most stunning views here." Lending to the ambiance and seclusion of the area, the CAP Index crime score is 1 out of 10, compared to the national average of 4.
Sleepy Hollow sits on the edge of Orange and San Bernardino counties. The residential pockets off Carbon Canyon Road, which is state Route 142, have no sidewalks. As the most direct way to travel from Chino Hills to Brea, the route is frequently used by commuters. Though there can be considerable traffic and related noise, SR-142 has a backroad and rural quality with some steep and narrow sections.

Thought of as a goodwill ambassador, skeleton figure Hollowman sits at his roadside outpost on SR-142 near Rosemary Lane. He was initially introduced by a nearby resident, after which a neighbor volunteered to keep up with his seasonal wardrobe changes, holiday accessories and the occasional bony sidekicks. Hollowman often reminds drivers to slow down, as the speed limit is 30 mph in his neck of the woods.

Unique Sleepy Hollow hillside homes
Named after Washington Irving's classic short story, which featured the Headless Horseman, Sleepy Hollow has been designated as a National Historic Landmark.
Sleepy Hollow is unique within Chino Hills for its history and setting, and some houses have quite a bit of character. A repurposed church and a geodesic dome home are two examples. Over 100 years of real estate are represented here, from bungalows and cabins to ranch-style homes and split-levels to contemporary tract-style houses. Lots are built into the hillsides, leaving little room for backyards. Many interior streets are steep and narrow, only with space for one car at a time.
There are few properties for sale at any one time, but prices have ranged from $40,000 to $100,000 for buildable lots and topped off in the mid-$800,000s for single-family homes. Those off the market are typically valued from the $400,000s to $800,000s; several have sold for over $1 million.
This multi-level home is common in some areas of the Sleepy Hollow area.
