South Chino Hills
South Chino Hills' 1960s to 2000s homes
The lot sizes in South Chino Hills are about the same as those in the northern portion of the city, but there's more open space overall. There are curved, sloped streets and many a cul-de-sac in South Chino Hills. Hilltop homes come with mountain and city views.Single-family homes include ranch-style houses built from the mid-1960s to the 1970s. Contemporary homes built in the 1980s through the 2000s have features like Spanish-style tile roofing and private in-ground pools. Homes from 1,000 square feet to 2,400 square feet typically cost $700,000 to $1.2 million. Custom-built estates with houses over 4,000 square feet on large lots can cost $1.7 million to $2.3 million. Gated communities include Flintridge, Sundance Hill, Vellano and Crown Ridge.
Townhouse and condo communities include Jade Tree, Village Oaks and Sage Court. Prices range from the low $500,000s to the mid-$700,000s. Not every home is within a homeowners association, but many are, regardless of home type. Depending on property value and HOA regulations, monthly fees can be $50 to $550.
Since wildfires are a potential risk in the area, the city of Chino Hills encourages residents to be proactive by having an emergency supply kit, keeping flammable items away from the house, and properly disposing of yard waste. AlertCalifornia, a University of California San Diego public safety program, has two webcam streams for Chino Hills State Park and one called Chino Hills Fixed South.
Glenmeade Elementary, Townsend Junior High
Public schools include Glenmeade Elementary School, which earns a B-plus from Niche. In 2023, Glenmeade received the California PBIS Platinum Implementation Award and was named a Kindness Certified School. Robert O. Townsend Junior High School and Chino Hills High School both receive A grades. The high school stands out for its arts and music offerings, with a 450-seat theater, a wood shop for theater set design, ceramics and video production classes, and high rankings for its dance team and indoor percussion ensemble.Big League Dreams, Chino Hills State Park
South Chino Hills has more than a dozen parks, so there's usually one within walking distance of homes. Pinehurst Park is 14 acres and has a basketball court and a playground with a tot lot and adaptive swings for accessibility. On the other side of state Route 71, Big League Dreams Chino Hills Sports Park features fields designed as scaled down replicas of Major League Baseball destinations, such as Fenway Park, Yankee Stadium and Wrigley Field. Other amenities include batting cages, a play area and a 20,000-square-foot indoor pavilion.O'Neill says the area around Vellano Park is especially scenic. "The views of the hills and mountains out there are fantastic, and the trails can take you right into the state park." About half of South Chino Hills is occupied by Chino Hills State Park, which is over 14,000 acres and offers miles of trails for hiking, biking and horseback riding. The park's entrance is on Sapphire Road.
Shops, dining and Luchador Brewing Co.
Some eateries are on Soquel Canyon Parkway and Los Serranos Country Club Drive. Popular breakfast, lunch or brunch spots include Take Ur Seat and the Violet Rooster.Luchador Brewing Company is inspired by Mexican wrestling and, in addition to 15 rotating taps, has a Tijuana-style food truck, El Camión. "It's a cool brewery that's wrestling-themed," says Re/Max 2000 Realtor Jorge Marquez, who has 12 years of housing policy legislative experience and is the former mayor of Covina. "They have some local favorites, and it's nice for folks to just get together and have a good time." The brewery hosts events like trivia and music bingo nights.
South Chino Hills has an Albertsons, and The Indian Pantry is another area option. It's about 7 miles to major shopping centers in North Chino Hills, such as The Shoppes at Chino Hills and Chino Spectrum Marketplace.
OmniRide shared service, freeway drives
Omnitrans' reservation-based OmniRide shared service is available for much of South Chino's residential areas, as fixed-route buses do not run in this part of Chino Hills. Several Omnitrans bus routes run from the Chino Transit Center, less than 5 miles away. Many people drive or carpool, and a Park & Ride is within 5 miles. "Chino Hills kind of has the best of three worlds: LA County, Riverside County and San Bernadino County," Marquez says. It's common for Chino Hills residents to work in surrounding areas. Major roads include state Routes 71, 83, 91 and 142, also known as Chino Hills Parkway. It's less than 10 miles to drive to nearby cities such as Pomona, Corona and Diamond Bar.
About 8 miles away, there's Chino Airport for independent and general aviation services. For major airlines, it's about 15 miles to Ontario International Airport and 50 miles to LAX.
Events
Chino Hills plans many family friendly events and seasonal celebrations, like Easter Egg-Citement and a holiday home-decorating contest. "It's an extremely friendly place — people want to be involved in the community; they make an effort to get to know their neighbors," O'Neill says. The city's parks and community centers host events like concerts, movies and teens' night out. On National Trails Day in June, park and trail enthusiasts gather for a guided morning hike.
In May, there's the McCoy Family Campout at the McCoy Equestrian & Recreation Center, which has dinner, breakfast and lots to do. December's Boat Parade means some rivalry to see whose boat has the best decorations. The parade, hosted by the Kiwanis Club of Chino Hills, has been held for over three decades.

Los Serranos Country Club, El Prado
Los Serranos Country Club is a public facility with a clubhouse and the Racquet Room Restaurant & Lounge. On the east side of SR-71 are El Prado Golf Courses: Butterfield Stage and Chino Creek. In addition to tee times by reservation, El Prado offers soccer-ball-based footgolf and has a breakfast café. The golf course is part of Prado Regional Park, which has an equestrian center, an Olympic shooting range and an archery range. Both facilities offer lessons, host tournaments and are used as event venues for weddings and parties.
