Delshire offers neighborhood amentities and "Cincy" culture
Delshire features an eclectic 1960s housing stock and recreational amenities, such as a swimming pool facility. Off the beaten path of the neighborhood pubs and retail in the Delhi region, this community is only about 6 miles west of Downtown Cincinnati, a cultural center on the Ohio River. "We have a well-established arts scene with an amazing symphony, opera and great theater. We also have sports teams in the MLB, NFL and MLS," says Amy Getgey, Cincinnati resident and Realtor at Comey & Shepherd. "There are safe neighborhoods here that are easily accessible, and there's a lot to do."
1960s homes and a tight-knit community on the West Side
The residential streets in Delshire have a classic suburban atmosphere, with modest lots, sidewalks and on-street parking. This area features New Traditional and two-story ranch-style homes built in the 1960s. Many homes incorporate a prairie-style influence with brick exteriors and large, midcentury windows. Single-family home prices range from $150,000 to $450,000. When asked if Delshire was part of Cincinnati proper, Getgey added, "Delshire is a suburb for sure, but Cincinnati is a general term. The postal address says Cincinnati, so it's clear as mud."
Neighborhoods on the west side of Cincinnati are known for their tight-knit community and small-town atmosphere. "When I first moved here from Dayton, someone told me I was an 'East Sider' because I lived there at the time," says Roy Webb, a real estate agent at Realtown Realty in Cincinnati. "The West Side is a big part of the city. I've never heard of another town's community being like this."
Centrally located schools and engineering at Oak Hills High
Delshire Elementary School earns a B-minus grade from Niche and is easily accessible in a central location. Its preschool program, on the same campus, prepares children for kindergarten through socialization and learning retention practices. Delhi Middle School has a B and has a parent-teacher association with opportunities for community involvement. Oak Hills High School also receives a B and has dual enrollment engineering courses with college credit.
Swimming, hiking and scenic views of the city
Delshire has direct access to the Delshire Swim Club, which has a 5,000-square-foot pool and a youth swim team. The Embshoff Woods and Nature Preserve is a 300-acre green space with exercise machines along a mile-long fitness trail that traverses a forest. It also has a disc golf course and a jungle gym. Residents can walk around the duck pond at Delhi Park, which features tennis courts and baseball diamonds. About 3 miles east, Mt. Echo Park is one of the city's grandest lookout points with dramatic views from a historic pavilion, framing Cincinnati on the river.
Cincinnati chili, pubs and supermarkets on Delhi Road
This community borders Delhi Road, a well-established thoroughfare with shopping plazas and local restaurants directly north. One dining option is Skyline Chili, a diner chain known for its famous brand of Greek chili, served over spaghetti and hot dogs, topped with a mound of cheddar cheese. The Wishbone Tavern serves chicken wings in a pub-style atmosphere with neon lighting. Kroger is the area's supermarket on Delhi Road, and Walmart Supercenter is about three miles north.
Public transit and quick access to nearby cities
The SORTA Metro 77 is a fixed public transit route that runs once every hour on weekdays. Downtown Cincinnati is about 6 miles east on U.S. Highway 50. Many cities, including Indianapolis, Dayton and Louisville, are all within a 2-hour drive. The Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport is roughly 20 miles south.
GreatSchools:
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
