A famous cemetery and historic homes in Spring Grove Village
Spring Grove Cemetery and Arboretum, founded in the mid-1840s, serves as the final resting place for a long list of notable politicians, poets and athletes—at more than 700 acres, it’s also one of the largest burial grounds in the country. The cemetery encompasses nearly half the acreage of Spring Grove Village, a neighborhood about 8 miles from downtown. “There are 52 neighborhoods in Cincinnati, and every one has a distinct flavor,” says Cindy Jo Holmes, a Cincinnati resident and licensed Realtor with Sibcy Cline. Spring Grove Village is one of the city’s oldest, and some homes date back to the late 1800s and the early days of the Spring Grove, Avondale and Cincinnati Railway. A stretch of train tracks remains today beside fast food restaurants and car dealerships; in Cincinnati, history and modernity collide.

Late 19th- and early 20th-century homes

Victorian Farmhouses, Foursquares, and bungalows constructed between the 1880s and 1920s occupy compact, and sometimes raised, lots. Prices typically range between $100,000 and $200,000, but several outliers exist. Investment properties can sell for less than $100,000, and recently restored historic homes, some of which have stained glass windows and multiple fireplaces, can hover between $260,000 and about $360,000.
