Nearly halfway between Birmingham and Montgomery, the small city of Clanton is part of Chilton County, which produces over 80 percent of Alabama's peach crop. "People take peaches very seriously here," says Nathan Oldroyd, a Realtor with Exit Royal Realty and resident of Clanton. The city's peach-shaped water tower celebrates the fruitful industry, and the annual Peach Jam Jubilee features live music, food vendors and family-fun activities. As of the 2020 U.S. Census, over 8,000 residents call Clanton home, a static number since 2010. Clanton's largest employer, Adient, is an automotive supplier with over 800 employees, while other major employers include Kumi Manufacturing, Franklin Iron Works and O-Flex Metal Finishing. "We have a lot of families that commute to either Birmingham or Montgomery for work," Oldroyd says.
