Del Oro Groves near Old Tampa Bay and Safety Harbor
Surrounded by parks and conservation land, Del Oro Groves is a quiet subdivision just off the water. “You can feel the breeze because it’s so close to Old Tampa Bay,” says Plamen Petkov, a broker associate and Realtor with #1 Realty Group. “Some residents can even see the water from their homes.” One of the oldest subdivisions in Clearwater, Del Oro Groves has wide streets and larger lots. It's located near shops and restaurants in Safety Harbor. “It's a golf cart community, and you can take your golf cart to Safety Harbor’s Main Street,” says Julie Kelsey, Del Oro Groves resident and Realtor with Coldwell Banker Realty. “If people ask where we live, we say Safety Harbor because Clearwater is so big, and we’re closer to Safety Harbor than probably 70% of the actual residents.”

Houses and condos in a no-flood zone and a voluntary HOA
Styles are a mix of Mediterranean-inspired, contemporary and ranch-style homes. Del Oro Groves was developed in three phases between the late 1950s and early 1980s. “Some homes are completely original, and others are remodeled with new additions,” Kelsey says. Single-family homes range from $350,000 to $875,000. Condos start at $105,000 and go up to $575,000. Properties are in a no-flood zone, and flood insurance is not required. However, there is an extreme wind risk.
The homeowners association is voluntary and primarily used for planning community events. “It's $25 a year, and we have a couple of community picnics. They put red bows on the mailbox for Christmas,” Kelsey says. “Even though it's voluntary, we really do feel like we have an HOA based on community, not based on a bunch of strict rules.”

Residents can walk, bike or take their golf carts to the shops and restaurants on Safety Harbor’s Main Street. Downtown is the hub for events like Market on Main and 3rd Friday Street Celebration. “Safety Harbor was in a Hallmark movie. That’s how cute it is,” Kelsey says. Just over a mile away, Bayside Bridge Plaza has Publix, chain restaurants and local eateries, like Paul’s Chicago Pizza.
Ruth Eckerd Hall is a performing arts venue located right in the neighborhood. “You do hear some of its concerts depending on where you are in the neighborhood,” Kelsey says. “They have tons of really great shows, people come from all over to go there.” People of all ages can take performing arts classes, workshops and private lessons at the Marcia P. Hoffman School of Arts at Ruth Eckerd Hall.

Exploring the neighborhood's many trails and parks
The Ream Wilson Trail runs from Clearwater Beach to Tampa Bay at Safety Harbor, spanning 13 miles. It connects to the Causeway Trail in Tampa Bay and Del Oro Park. “It's an older park in the neighborhood that's been completely redesigned with pickleball courts,” Kelsey says. It also has basketball courts, a playground and shaded walking trails. Outdoor enthusiasts can launch a kayak or go fishing at Cooper’s Bayou Park, another green space along the Ream Wilson Trail. It’s a dog-friendly park, but owners should be on the lookout for alligators. Golf courses in the area include The Landings.
