Clemmons North
Suburban Neighborhood in Clemmons, North Carolina
Forsyth County 27012, 27103
20th-21st century suburban aesthetic
Residential construction in Clemmons North began in the mid-1900s, but most homes in the neighborhood were built during a boom in the ‘90s. “It’s mostly 1995 and newer construction. It’s a very established neighborhood, with lots of greenery,” Stewart says. He adds that the overall atmosphere is that of a “cookie-cutter-type community,” given how similar all the homes appear from the outside, from the architecture down to the landscaping. While most homes are Traditional or Colonial Revival in style, there are some split-level and ranch-style homes available, too. Stewart says that the low end of the price spectrum here is around $250,000, while the high end is closer to $500,000, a range that largely depends on age and size.Recreation in Tanglewood Park close by
Tanglewood Park is about 5 miles south of most homes. Stewart says the expansive park is an outdoor recreation hub for not only Clemmons North residents but for residents of the village as a whole. “People even drive in from parts of Winston-Salem to go to Tanglewood. It’s especially big at Christmas when it's lit up for the season,” he says. The Tanglewood Golf Club features two courses designed by Robert Trent Jones and a pro shop. Visitors can book tee times for traditional rounds or for softgolf, a full-swing golf game that uses 4.5-inch foam balls instead of regular golf balls on a dedicated course with 12-inch holes. The outdoor Peter S. Brunstetter Aquatic Center, also in Tanglewood, has a zero-depth wading pool, a splash pad, a lazy river and a main pool with diving boards and slides. Tanglewood BMX, a nonprofit organization established in the early ‘80s, hosts regular bike races on the park’s dirt tracks. There’s also a dog park, tennis, pickleball, walking paths and horseback riding.Firefighter Academy at West Forsyth High
Students here attend schools in the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools system. Many go to Southwest Elementary, Meadowlark Middle and West Forsyth High, all three of which earn A-minus grades from Niche. Stewart says West Forsyth High is especially sought-after. The high school offers a Firefighter Academy program in partnership with the Clemmons, Lewisville and Vienna fire departments. Classes in the program are designed to resemble a real fire department; students are structured into companies, with officer ranks and accompanying responsibilities.Overlooking the intersection of Interstate 40 and U.S. Route 421
Interstate 40 runs past the southeast side of Clemmons North; U.S. Route 421 runs east-west along the north side. The two main thoroughfares intersect a few miles northeast of the community. Route 421 curves northeast toward downtown Winston-Salem, about 10 miles away. Depending on traffic, the drive takes about 20 minutes. I-40 connects east toward the Piedmont Triad International Airport in Greensboro, about 40 miles away. Both Wake Forest University and Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center, two major local employers, are within 11 miles east of Clemmons North.
Retailers and restaurants galore along nearby business corridors
A few miles northeast, the Interstate 40 and Hanes Mall Boulevard business corridors are lined with big-box retailers such as Walmart Supercenter, Target and Costco. National chain eateries such as Firebirds Wood Fired Grill and Olive Garden are scattered throughout the area, too. Village Tavern, nearby, is one of two Winston-Salem locations of the popular regional chain. The casual sit-down restaurant serves Southern and Southwestern-inspired cooking. Stewart says that for groceries, locals can stick even closer to home. “There’s a new Publix just south of here, and a Lowes Foods not much farther.” Both grocery stores are within a couple miles of Clemmons North. Down the street, Pete’s Family Restaurant is a popular spot for classic American diner fare. The local greasy spoon has been around since 1977.
