A blend of communities
Buckeye-Shaker is a historic community that encompasses Old Buckeye, Woodland Hills, Larchmere and Shaker Square, Ohio’s oldest shopping district. It’s located just 6 miles east of downtown Cleveland and borders Shaker Heights to the west. “There's a fuzzy edge between Shaker Heights and Buckeye-Shaker," says top-selling Realtor Karen Nordstrom. While this neighborhood is often overshadowed by its more famous neighbor, it has a list of its own amenities. With a strong community spirit, accessibly priced homes, convenient access to downtown and a historic shopping district, Buckeye-Shaker is on the rise.

Shaker Square and Larchmere
Shaker Square is Ohio’s oldest shopping district. As the name suggests, shops are arranged in a square formation at the heart of this community. Locals can catch a movie at the longstanding Atlas Cinemas before walking over to Zanzibar Soul Fusion to grub on soul rolls and Kool-Aid jars. For groceries, they head to Dave's Market, a long-running local chain with fresh produce, seafood, and an in-house butcher. In addition to Shaker Square, Nordstrom says, "Larchmere is also very popular in the Shaker area community, and just as walkable." Larchmere is just a block north of Shaker Square and is lined with a slew of unique dining options, from the old-timey watering hole Academy Tavern to the home-style breakfast spot Big Al’s Diner.

Calvary Hill Church of God in Christ
Calvary Hill is more than a church for Sunday service. When Pastor Ernest Fields saw a need for transformation in the community, he formed Buckeye Ministry in Missions Alliance (BMMA), a group comprised of community service organizers, leaders from two other churches and local government representatives. Since its inception in 2014, BMMA has worked with Cleveland Habitat to rehab 27 houses and assist 220 Buckeye residents. The church also hosts ample community events throughout the year, such as a Gospel Block Party, trade workshops, toy drives and more. The church is a community cornerstone that puts the transformation of the greater Bucker-Shaker area at the center of its service efforts.
