Riverside living adjacent to major airport hub
Taxiways, runways, and planes buzzing overhead don’t stop this neighborhood from enjoying a 2,500-acre park reservation with three public golf courses and a flowing river—all with a major airport nearby. “Having all these protected green spaces right in your backyard is a gem. When you’re not golfing in the warmer months or battling four inches of snow, the Cleveland ‘hearty mindset’ people have will ensure they’re outside enjoying any activity,” says Jacqueline Lapine Gerling, director of communications for Cleveland Metroparks.
Riverside is divided into two sections, with Cleveland Hopkins International Airport occupying the southern half of the community. Proximity to event spaces and shopping centers, such as The Aviator, which hosts weddings and proms, or NASA’s Glenn Research Center, which holds annual events for the community and the greater Cleveland area, is a significant asset.
Cape Cods, bungalows make up neighborhood
Riverside is a car-dependent neighborhood where most residents are homeowners, with 65% owning their homes. Potential buyers can expect single-family residences featuring Cape Cod-style architecture with central chimneys and steep gabled roofs. The neighborhood also boasts several bungalows with large front porches and dormer windows. Home prices typically range from $125,000 to $240,000 for two- to three-bedroom properties.
Participate in the choir, orchestra at Berea-Midpark Middle School
Clara E. Westropp School, which holds a C grade from Niche, and Garfield Elementary School, which scores a C-plus, are the two primary elementary schools serving the neighborhood. Berea-Midpark Middle School, located several miles outside the community, also scores a C-plus. The middle school offers an extensive music program, allowing students to participate in orchestra and choir, with concerts held each semester. Berea-Midpark High School, the primary high school option, receives a B grade.
Instant access to Cleveland Hopkins International Airport
The neighborhood borders Cleveland Hopkins International Airport, providing residents convenient access to the city’s central airport hub. Several hotels surround the airport, including the Hilton Garden Inn and The Orbit Hotel by Wyndham. The airport offers five on-site parking options, including a garage with approximately 4,000 spaces. In minutes, residents can access two major highways, Interstates 71 and 480. The nearest hospital, Cleveland Clinic Fairview Hospital, is 3 miles from the neighborhood.
Seasonal activities at Rocky River Reservation
Cleveland Metroparks spans over 25,000 acres across 18 park reservations, with the Rocky River Reservation often considered its crown jewel. Riverside residents enjoy walkable access to hundreds of miles of paved, multi-use trails and natural hiking paths. The Emerald Necklace Trail provides 33 consecutive miles of paved, off-road, shared-use trails, connecting bicyclists and pedestrians to various neighborhoods.
Rocky River also offers a variety of seasonal events and activities, including golf, kayaking, woodpecker walks, and maple sugaring. “A team of naturalists hosts daytime and nighttime hikes, with a popular maple sugaring event each March. A standout feature is the Fort Hill Stairs, which overlook the Shell Cliffs and the river,” says Lapine Gerling.
Hundreds of shopping, dining options at Great Northern Mall
Five miles from the neighborhood is Great Northern Mall, a sprawling 130-acre shopping center with 120 stores, including dining options such as BJ’s Restaurant & Brewhouse and Texas Roadhouse. This single-level, indoor mall features major department stores like Dillard’s, Macy’s, and Dick’s Sporting Goods, among its many retailers, including Marc’s Stores and Aldi for grocery store options. Within the Riverside neighborhood, Grayton Road Tavern is a popular bar and grill known for its classic wings, burgers, and lobster bisque—perfect for enjoying while watching a Cleveland professional sports game.
Annual events at NASA’s Glenn Research Center
NASA’s Glenn Research Center hosts annual events showcasing its research and technology. In 2024, the center held its first Robotics Buckeye Regional Competition, where students participated in an engineering design challenge. Visitors also have opportunities to meet research team members, including the Graphics and Visualization Lab, which is focused on the mission to establish a lunar space station on the Moon.
GreatSchools:
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
