Cleveland is a scenic, rural Northeastern Pennsylvania community

In the hills of Northeastern Pennsylvania’s Columbia County, Cleveland is a rural area offering serenity in a quiet, scenic community. Its biggest claim to fame is Knoebels Amusement Resort, which has been around for nearly 100 years and is the nation’s largest free-entry amusement park. Aside from that, the community is mostly rural housing, with a few campgrounds and farm markets mixed in. The closest town is Bloomsburg, 13 miles north, which offers shopping and dining options and is home to a campus of Commonwealth University.

Single-family homes on rolling hills

Cleveland typically has single-family homes and land for sale, with prices ranging from roughly $150,000 to $575,000. Farmhouses and ranch-style homes are common, and many properties offer scenic views of the region’s rolling hills. Cleveland is home to Mystic Mountain Estates, a planned community with about 230 lots, about 80 of which have been developed. Mystic Mountain Estates has its own property owners association and community events.

Learning in Southern Columbia Area School District

Students in Cleveland can attend schools in Southern Columbia Area School District, which gets an overall B-minus grade from Niche. They can start at the B-plus-rated G.C. Hartman Elementary School before continuing to the B-rated Southern Columbia Area Middle School and the B-minus-rated Southern Columbia Area High School (SCA). SCA students can take dual enrollment courses through Luzerne County Community College, Lackawanna College or Commonwealth University. Commonwealth University – Bloomsburg is located 13 miles north and enrolls about 7,000 students each semester.

A free-entry amusement park, campgrounds and Numidia Dragway

Cleveland’s biggest attraction is Knoebels Amusement Resort, a free-entry, pay-per-ride amusement park with roller coasters, a pool with water slides and an 18-hole golf course. The park also has two campgrounds in the neighborhood, where visitors can tent, RV or cabin camp. Five miles east, Numidia Dragway hosts regular car races from April through October.

A farm-to-table restaurant and additional dining options in Bloomsburg

Ponduce Farms has a market and restaurant in Cleveland, allowing residents convenient access to homemade baked goods, fresh produce and meals made with farm-to-table ingredients. On Cleveland’s west end, The Nickle Plate Bar & Grill is a restaurant located at Knoebels Three Ponds Golf Club, serving American fare in a casual dining room. Additional dining options are available 13 miles north in Bloomsburg. “Downtown, you’ve got restaurants, a theater and art galleries,” says Realtor Angela Young with Century 21 Covered Bridges Realty, Inc. “Every first Friday of the month in Bloomsburg, you’ll find music outdoors, food trucks and vendors, all kinds of fun things.” Bloomsburg also offers multiple grocery store options, including GIANT, Weis Markets and Walmart.

Nearby hospitals and airports

Cleveland is a car-dependent community 13 miles south of Bloomsburg. When traveling out of town, residents can fly out of Lehigh Valley International Airport, 76 miles southeast, or Harrisburg International Airport, 79 miles southwest. “You have good access to doctors and hospitals,” Young says. “We have a hospital in Danville and one in Bloomsburg, so there’s plenty of access to healthcare professionals.” Danville’s Geisinger Medical Center is 15 miles northwest, and Geisinger Bloomsburg Hospital is 14 miles northeast.
