Neighborhood in Texas
El Paso County 79836
Roughly 20 miles southeast of El Paso, Texas, the quiet, rural community of Clint provides a slower pace of life amongst expansive cotton fields, farms and pecan trees. Just a few miles from the U.S.-Mexico border, this small town is home to generations of families who are proud of where they come from. “People who live here like the area because it's very quiet, and it's not crowded like some other parts of El Paso can be,” says area resident Mary Perkins, an agent with Century 21 APD & Associates. “Often, people who live here have had family who have lived here their whole life, so they also choose to settle down in a family-oriented, comfortable community that is familiar to them.”
Homes in Clint date back to the mid-20th century, though there's also new construction in developing subdivisions; residents can find manufactured ranch- and Craftsman-style models, as well as Spanish Revival- and adobe-style homes. While there are a relatively small number of homes here in relation to more populated areas, there are many open lots available for building a new home. “The lots are much bigger in Clint than other areas of El Paso, which attracts people who are looking for privacy and who don’t want neighbors right on top of them,” Perkins says. In addition to having larger lot sizes, homes in Clint are also far more affordable in relation to other surrounding El Paso communities, ranging from $100,000 for manufactured and smaller ranch-style homes to $400,000 for homes with larger floor plans.
The nearby San Eli Supermarket offers a bakery, a meat counter and a large selection of produce, while at Ramirez Pecan Farms, locals can buy freshly harvested pecans, pies and house-made ice cream. Locally owned eateries include Coffee Waffle, with specialty coffees, boba tea and creative spins on waffles; Cotton Eyed Joe’s for classic American-style breakfasts and authentic south-of-the-border cuisine; and Mariscos y Tacos El Güero de Culiacan, which serves artfully prepared Mexican-style seafood dishes and cocktails.
Kids can attend Clint Independent district schools like William David Surratt Elementary, which earns a C rating from Niche, and Clint Junior High, which earns a C-minus. The B-minus-rated Clint High offers career-focused programs in computer science, fine arts, veterinary science and more; and the district’s B-plus-rated Early College Academy enables students to graduate with an Associate of Arts degree alongside their high school diploma.
Small, grassy Clint Veterans Park is home to the town’s water tower; a red, white and blue sculpture representing both Texas and the United States; and the Veterans’ Memorial Wall, where residents can honor fallen military members. Three miles away in San Elizario, locals can visit Fernie Madrid Eagle Park for a baseball diamond and basketball court, a paved walking track and an open playing field. Alejandra Flores and Ted Richardson parks, also in nearby San Elizario, both have skate parks and playgrounds.
Ramirez Pecan Farms' hosts annual family events like the Pecan Festival, held annually throughout December, where residents can enjoy a day strolling the grounds and picking their own pecans straight from the tree. Monthly events in neighboring San Elizario include the Mission Trail Art Market, held the third Sunday of each month from April to November; and The Billy the Kid Festival held annually in June, which features a historical reenactment of the notorious outlaw's break-in at the old county jail.
Located just off Interstate 10, residents in Clint can conveniently access surrounding areas of El Paso and Texas. The Hospitals of Providence Horizon City Campus is 10 miles away and it's a 20-mile trip to El Paso International Airport.
