Preserving the town's history

Clinton, just 42 miles south of Cleveland, is a 4 square mile suburb with a sparse, rural feel. Red brick buildings line the Main Street of this historic enclave, home to less than 1000 people. “It’s just a lovely place to live. It’s a small town filled with caring people. There’s a focus on community and the preservation of history,” says Sandra Dreurey, life-long resident and author of The Clinton Story. “The Veterans Memorial Park and The Historical Society are Clinton staples.” Clinton residents enjoy the serenity of rural living and the closeness of a small community in a town steeped in tradition.

Small-town feel and rural living

Though most residents live in the small grid-style plan at the center of the neighborhood, there are several small subdivisions branching off main roads outside of the town center. Narrow sidewalks line broad streets in the central subdivision, while the small rural subdivisions require a car to get around. Though some street parking is available, most residents have carports. Ranches, Cape Cods and split-level homes dot the landscape, ranging in price from $100,000 to $300,000, with the average home going for around $250,000.

Restaurants people come to town for

For casual dining, Rusty Railz Bar and Grille serves classic American food in one of the many historic brick buildings characteristic of Clinton. “They have wonderful food, and the prices are good,” says Dreurey. “People come from all around to eat at that restaurant.” For a more upscale dining experience, residents dine at The Barrel Room on Canal, just 3 and a half miles southeast of Clinton. For groceries and most shopping, locals have to travel outside of Clinton. Buehler's Fresh Foods Portage Lakes is an option, just 8 miles northeast of the neighborhood. For larger retail, residents can head to Target, located inside the Arlington Ridge Marketplace 10 miles northeast of Clinton.

Fun in the fall

The Historical Society puts on many of the Clinton events. One of the most popular is the Clinton Apple 'n Pork Festival, held annually on the last full weekend of September. Residents and folks in neighboring communities come together for two days of harvest-time treats, live music and booths full of artisanal goods.
