Close to the U.S. Mexico border and 8 miles from Cannon Air Force base, the Clovis Original neighborhood is a mix of rental properties used by military personnel, and homes owned by locals. “It’s a military town, and you’ve got a lot of support for the military,” says Dawne Armstrong, a Qualifying Broker with YOUR 1st CHOICE 4 REALTY. “I’d say 85-90% of the renters in the city are military.” The neighborhood is also home to the city’s first microbrewery, local antique shops, and its close to the Hillcrest Park Zoo.

Bandolero Brewery was the first microbrewery in Clovis and serves southwestern-style food along with a variety of craft beer. Karaoke, trivia and live music are also common at the brewery. “Bandolero is a great brewery,” says Jessica Lombardi, a Realtor with EXP Realty. “And there are some good shops around there.” Clovis Original is home to a variety of antique stores like Penny Lane, Bullet Bob Has It and JunQtique. Red Door, which is across the street from Bandolero Brewery, has a large outdoor patio area and hosts live comedy. Lowes Market, a grocery store, is about 1 mile away.

Hillcrest Park is 1.5 miles from Clovis Original and has 140 acres of land and playgrounds, and some special attractions. The Hillcrest Park Zoo is the second largest in New Mexico, and home to a variety of animals like giraffes, llamas and alligators. The park also has a seasonal splash park, picnic areas and a wedding venue. Clovis Veterans Park is on the west side of the neighborhood and has a fighter jet and tank exhibit on the property.
Rodeos, car shows and the 4-H Fair in Clovis
Clovis has many events throughout the year, like Draggin’ Main, a car show that takes over Main Street every June. For a week, the city is filled with the sounds of muscle car engines gunning, motor enthusiasts whooping, and live music playing in the evenings. Clovis also hosts seasonal rodeos and a 4-H fair. The rodeo, called Pioneer Days, gallops into town every May and draws out much of the city to watch bull riding, team roping and barrel racing. Clovis Original is home to a variety of houses of worship, like Potter House Christian Center, Prince Street Baptist Church and Legacy Life Family Church.

The Plains Regional Healthplex is about 4 miles away.
