Dartford
Suburban Neighborhood in Colbert, Washington
Spokane County 99005, 99006, 99208
Houses differ east and west of 395
Dartford features a mix of older homes and newer construction that offers modern amenities. Architectural styles range from traditional farmhouses and ranch-style homes to contemporary designs and custom-built properties. The neighborhood has seen significant development in recent years, with new projects springing up regularly, but there are distinctions between the east and west of State Highway 395. “It’s higher density to the east. You follow up on Hatch Road; you have neighborhood to neighborhood,” says Chris Heftal, developer and real estate broker at Kestell Company Realtors. “West of 395 becomes hillier and more mountainous.” East of 395 are primarily Craftsman-influenced ranch-styled homes with at least three bedrooms and 2,500 square feet. The range on this side is between $400,000 to $1.5 million. On the western end are gated communities, larger homes with greater acreage or empty lots. “There are two gated communities that are part of the area called Country Hills and River Bluff Ranch,” says Heftal. “The ones in the gated communities want the city-like amenities and neighbors but want elbow room.” Homes in the subdivisions east of the 395 typically sell for between $400,000 and $1 million, while properties on the west side usually feature at least a few acres and can go for anywhere from $600,000 to the high seven figures.Little Spokane nature areas and community parks
One of Dartford’s most appealing features is its access to parks and recreational activities. The neighborhood is near several natural attractions, including the Little Spokane River Natural Area, which offers opportunities for fishing, kayaking and nature walks; Haynes Estate Conservation Area; and Van Horn, Edburg and Bass, Conservation Area. Together, these public recreation areas feature over a dozen miles of mountainous, wooded hiking trails and some great views. There are also a number of smaller public parks in the neighborhood. Pine River and Bidwell Community parks feature volleyball, pickleball and basketball courts along with playgrounds and picnic space. During the warmer months, the Northside Family Aquatics Facility has a miniature water park with water slides, swimming pools and diving boards. Additionally, the nearby Wandermere Golf Course provides a recreational outlet for golf enthusiasts with its well-maintained greens and facilities. The Mead School District
Most Dartford students attend local schools in the Mead School District, which holds an A-minus on Niche. Midway Elementary, Farwell Elementary and Northwood Middle School also have A-minus grades on the site. Mead Senior High School has a B-plus grade and offers college credit to students through dual enrollment programs with nearby colleges, including Whitworth and Gonzaga.291 and 395 to downtown Spokane
Dartford is a bit remote from the rest of Spokane. Two main routes connect the community to the rest of the city, State Highways 395 and 291. For most residents, it’s a 15- to 20-mile drive to Downtown Spokane and Interstate 90, which are both due south. Car ownership is a must in Dartford, as the neighborhood is just outside the sphere of the Spokane Transit Authority.Head south 395 for food
While Dartford itself doesn’t have much in the way of retail or dining, it’s close to the large commercial areas of North Spokane. It’s 2 miles to the nearest Fred Meyer via 395. Just a couple miles south of that, North Division Street is lined with numerous supermarkets, department stores and restaurants. Fairwood, located just south of Dartford, is home to a wide variety of restaurants, from popular Spokane-area chain Atilano’s, known for their San Diego-style burritos, to more upscale spots like Selkirk Pizza and Tap House and Twigs Bistro and Martini Bar.
