Community spirit on the Kentucky side of the Ohio River
On warm August nights, the green in front of the Municipal Park amphitheater fills with lawn chairs and blankets for the Cold Spring Summer Concert Series. It’s just one of the many examples of community events held in Cold Spring, a city of approximately 6,300 situated on the Kentucky side of the Ohio River. In the wintertime, residents collect donations for the holiday coat drive and participate in Halloween costume contests come fall. “It’s a super close-knit community, and that’s a huge draw for the people that live there,” says Laura Meiners of Keller Williams Seven Hills Realty, adding, “The town has a community center where they put on the Summer Concert Series, movies and a bunch of festivals throughout the year.” Central to Cold Spring’s appeal, in addition to its community spirit, is its proximity to Cincinnati, about 8 miles away via Interstate 471. “The location is ideal, just 10 minutes from downtown,” says Meiners. It’s common for residents to drive to and from the larger city to work at companies like Procter & Gamble, or Kroger, traveling back at night to quiet suburban streets lined with basketball hoops and decades-old trees.
