Residents of College Park Woods are surrounded by suburban sprawl and moderate tree cover, but they're also only a few blocks from many of College Park's retail and dining options, as well as the University of Maryland's main campus. That's a major draw for people who work or study at UMD. "It's one of the only walkable communities connected to the university, with mostly larger single-family homes on decent-sized lots," says Emily Jackson, a longtime College Park local and Realtor with Northrop Realty. Though College Park Woods only has one neighborhood park, it's bordered to the east by a golf course and a nature trail that allows pedestrian access through much of the city.

Access to the Paint Branch Trail running through College Park
College Park Woods Neighborhood Park has paved walking paths, a playground, and a grass field often used as an event space. "There aren't any big parks right next to the neighborhood, but the Paint Branch Trail was recently connected to College Park Woods in the last few years," says Jackson. "There's also the Paint Branch Golf Course." Paint Branch Trail stretches over 3 miles through the city and is popular for hikers and cyclists. College Park Woods residents can take the trail from their neighborhood to the Paint Branch Golf Complex, which has a driving range, a 9-hole course and a pro shop. The trail ends at Lake Artemesia to the southeast. The 38-acre lake is a popular spot to fish for largemouth bass, and it has a butterfly garden nearby.
