Single-family homes in cul-de-sacs in Colorado Centre
The wide streets in Colorado Centre are laid out in a grid and lined with narrow, concrete sidewalks and pruned pine trees. Subdivisions are dotted with speed bumps and lamp posts, and some properties sit in cul-de-sacs. Single-family homes here consist of late 20th-century New Traditional houses with vinyl facades, two-car garages and one- to two-story Craftsman-inspired builds from the 2010s and 2020s. Most of these properties have fenced-in backyards with patios, some big enough to fit a grill and furniture. Some are also within walking distance of pocket parks with playgrounds. Prices range between $315,000 and $550,000; newer homes tend to cost more.Ely says more condos and businesses are being built near the corner of Bradley Road and Marksheffel Boulevard. In the summer of 2024, developers broke ground on the Colorado Aerospace Business Center, a 300,000-square-foot building that will house advanced technology companies and create over 250 jobs.
Making music at Widefield High
Colorado Centre is zoned for the Widefield School District. Colorado is a “school choice” state, so parents can enroll in any public school district during open enrollment. Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary is rated B, while Watson Junior High earns a B-minus. Widefield High School also scores a B-minus and is known for career-focused programs, including the Music Production Pathway, where students learn about acoustics and audio production.Driving-centered community 13 miles from downtown Colorado Springs
Marksheffel Boulevard is a major thoroughfare that runs along the western side, giving access to Peterson Space Force Base 6 miles northwest. Bradley Road connects to the southern border and travels to Colorado State Highway 21 a few miles west. Downtown Colorado Springs is a 13-mile drive west via Markssheffel. Residents drive to get from one place to another, but Marksheffel and Bradley Road are bikeable. UCHealth Emergency Room-Fountain is a 7-mile drive southwest, and Colorado Springs Airport is 8 miles west.Shopping local in nearby Fountain
Ely says most people will travel to Fountain, Colorado, 6 miles southwest, to grocery shop at grocery chains like Safeway. Bird Dog BBQ is a local favorite serving smoked meats and pulled pork sandwiches. Further west near Fountain’s Downtown, Olde Town Coffee Shop serves cold brews and lattes, and C’mon Inn—nicknamed “Fountain’s Finest Watering Hole”—has $5 margaritas on Tuesdays and occasional karaoke nights. Nearby Tee Time Boutique sells a variety of houseplants and tiny collectibles, and Book Archive LTD has stacks of used books and a few cats that roam the store. First and Main Town Center is about 10 miles northwest in Colorado Springs for more retail options.Hitting up pocket parks and exploring the plains in Bluestem Prairie Open Space
The area has a handful of small pocket parks within walking distance of some homes. Mosko Park has swings, a swirling climbing wall and a covered seating area for picnics. Visitors can also bring their dogs for a walk and check out the blue Little Library at the entrance. The fenced-in Parkview Park has a playground for toddlers and plenty of benches around its perimeter. The 650-acre Bluestem Prairie Open Space is 5 miles southwest, giving views of vast farmland and the Rocky Mountain range. Folks can mountain bike on 9 miles of single-track trail or walk through the prairie for prime birdwatching.Sitting back to watch Pikes Peak Regional Airshow
Colorado Centre residents venture outside their neighborhood for events and celebrations. Around August, the two-day Pikes Peak Regional Airshow takes place at Colorado Springs Airport; local food vendors set up shop, and attendees can watch the U.S. Navy Blue Angels and U.S. Air Force Parachute Team perform tricks in the sky. Local Fountain organization, Thunder in the Valley, holds the two-day Thunder in the Valley Car Show, where car lovers admire hundreds of classic cars in Metcalfe Park.Fire and flood risks in Colorado Centre
Because of its location, Colorado Centre is at risk of wildfire, especially between May and September. The Colorado Springs Fire Department advises homeowners to keep a defensible space around their homes by planting non-flammable shrubs and clearing lawns of pine needles. The Colorado Springs Fire Department Station 25 is less than 2 miles from the area. Homes on the neighborhood's perimeter, where the Jimmy Camp Creek runs, are more susceptible to flooding destruction. The Colorado Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management recommends checking on sump pumps and keeping a 72-hour kit in case of flash flooding.
