Flying Horse Ranch
Striking stucco homes in gated communities
Properties are arranged in subdivisions with smaller yards, which are decorated with rocky, drought-resistant landscaping. As a planned community, homes in Flying Horse Ranch maintain a uniform look — stucco-and-stone designs and neutral Spanish Revivals that were built in the last 20 years make up the housing stock. However, the neighborhood’s six residential subdivisions offer a range of housing styles and prices. Some townhouses are priced between $500,000 and $600,000, while many single-family options are priced between $650,000 and $850,000. “There are a few gated communities inside Flying Horse that are highly exclusive, with upper luxury homes,” Gibson says. These striking homes feature larger lots and are priced from $1 million to $1.5 million.Three schools at the A-rated Discovery Canyon Campus
Students don’t have to travel out of the neighborhood for school, as they can attend Discovery Canyon Campus, a connected campus with three schools to serve students from grades prekindergarten through 12. Discovery Canyon Campus Elementary and Discovery Canyon Campus Middle both earn A grades from Niche. Discovery Canyon Campus High has an A-minus rating and offers STEM career pathways to prepare students for future careers and college studies. Students can study biomedical sciences, business marketing, engineering and more.Golf, swim and relax at The Club at Flying Horse
The neighborhood’s luxurious crown gem is The Club at Flying Horse, a resort-style club where members often golf on two 18-hole courses or swim laps in the year-round heated pool. Residents can escape the arid summer heat at the resort’s seasonal adult-only pool or lounge on the stone deck to watch their kids play on the splash pad. Members can also challenge their neighbors to tennis matches or exercise at the club’s comprehensive fitness center. Pocket parks are scattered throughout Flying Horse Ranch, allowing most residents to walk to the playgrounds and open green space at Frog’s Leap Park and Lizard Leap Park. There are also concrete sidewalks that link the neighborhood’s subdivisions, making for a convenient route for morning jogs or afternoon walks.Support local growers at The Backyard Market
Members of The Club at Flying Horse can gather for community get-togethers, and the neighborhood is conveniently positioned near popular events in northern Colorado Springs. “The new outdoor amphitheater is under 10 minutes away. I think it’s going to be completed in August 2024, and they already have all the bands lined up,” Gibson says. “That’s going to bring a lot of fun new restaurants to the north end of town. It’s going to have 8,000 or so seats.” At The Backyard Market, which is located 6 miles east in Black Forest, residents can support local vendors and find farm-fresh vegetables and artisanal products.Flavorful bites at The Steakhouse at Flying Horse
For an elevated dinner out, locals head to The Steakhouse at Flying Horse, where they can indulge in filet mignon and cocktails while taking in views of Pikes Peak and the club’s golf courses through the restaurant’s floor-to-ceiling windows. “The Steakhouse is unmatched,” Gibson says. “It always comes up in the top five steakhouses in Colorado Springs.” Nearby eateries offer more casual fare — residents can head to Walter’s 303 for beer and pizza or Zapata Mexican Taco Shop to enjoy a salsa bar and birria tacos. Close by, Sprouts Farmers Market stocks groceries and household essentials, but locals can drive a few miles south to shopping plazas with big box stores like Target.Convenient interstate access for commuting
Some amenities in the community are within walking distance, but the area is largely car-reliant. “A lot of commuters like the option of having 83 and I-25, so whether it be Denver, Castle Rock or heading south, they’re in a great location to commute,” Gibson says. Residents can follow State Route 83 to travel throughout the Springs or drive west to merge onto Interstate 25 to travel 15 miles south to downtown Colorado Springs. They can also drive 60 miles north on Interstate 25 to get to Denver, and the Colorado Springs Airport is 20 miles from the neighborhood for longer trips.
