Middle Creek
Pedestrian-friendly streets next to brick homes
Residential streets in Middle Creek are wide and curve into small sidewalk-lined cul-de-sacs. Single-family homes include early 21st-century new traditional properties with brick exteriors and modern Craftsman homes built in the 2010s. Houses sit in enclosed subdivisions like Middle Creek Manor and Stonewater, with fenced-in yards and two-story wooden decks. Prices can range between $530,000 and $750,000, and residents will pay upwards of $63 in monthly HOA fees. Early 2000s-built Craftsman and new traditional homes on quarter-acre lots are dispersed throughout the northeast corner of the community. These properties have spacious front porches, back decks with verandas and intricate stone gardens with desert plants. Some homes in subdivisions like Stone Crossing are close to community gardens, playgrounds and trails. Stone Crossing’s HOA hosts its own small musical concerts at the small Stone Crossing Amphitheater, which faces a man-made pond. Prices range from about $800,000 to almost $1 million, with up to $120 in monthly HOA fees.Post-grad options at the Air Force Academy
Middle Creek is served by the Academy District 20 school district, one of the highest-ranked districts in the city, according to Niche. The district allows families to send in school choice applications from January to August. Kids start at the da Vinci Academy, which receives a B-plus from Niche, and continue on to Discovery Canyon Middle, which earns an A. Discovery Canyon Campus High, rated A-minus, is known for its biomedical sciences programs. Students can learn more about health care professions through hands-on experiences in the lab. The Air Force Academy is west of the area and has well-known Space Force programs, where students can study rocket design and space navigational systems.Picturesque trails and park amenities in Middle Creek
The 11-acre Mary Kyer Park is a go-to spot for dog walking and relaxing, with views of the Front Range Mountains. Visitors can stroll the half-mile loop around the pond, play a game of pick-up basketball or check out the playground structures. Hikers and joggers can also access the paved 2-mile-long La Foret Trail at the park. The Front Range Trail runs through the southwestern corner of the neighborhood, connecting it to the 14-mile-long Santa Fe Regional Trail. People can hike or bike the dirt-packed trail across the city for views of the Rocky Mountains and Colorado prairie land. The small pocket park, Apple Park, is located near the western side of Middle Creek. In fall of 2024, the Make-A-Wish Fountain opened a wheelchair-accessible swing in the park, thanks to the request of a local girl with a genetic disorder. The membership-only Flying Horse Resort and Club has two 18-hole courses; members can utilize the on-site gym, pickleball courts and a 25-yard lap swimming pool.Sipping drinks at Coffee and Tea Zone and visiting Shops at Voyager
Locals have a handful of eateries to explore within the community. Locally owned Sushi Ato serves flavorful rolls and traditional ramen. Zapata Mexican Taco Shop offers savory carne asada plates and colorful cocktails. For a pick-me-up, residents can buy lattes from Coffee and Tea Zone, which has been in business for nearly 20 years. The nearby Shops at Voyager shopping mall has small businesses like the Brio Salon and Ridgeline Family Dentistry. Further north, Apricot Lane Boutique sells women’s clothing and accessories and Boot Barn sells Western wear. For more retail chains like Sephora and Williams-Sonoma, the Promenade Shops at Briargate are 6 miles south. For groceries, Sprouts is about 2 miles north.Commuting on Interstate 25
Interstate 25 borders the neighborhood in the west, connecting to other parts of the city and Denver 60 miles north. Downtown Colorado Springs is also about 16 miles south via I-25. Voyager Parkway cuts through the area and connects to Academy Boulevard, which has shopping and dining spots about 6 miles south. UCHealth Emergency Room-Meadowgrass is 2 miles north via Voyager Parkway, and Colorado Springs Airport is 22 miles south.Nature IMAX films at Air Force Planetarium
Opened in August 2024, the nearby Ford Amphitheater has already hosted concerts by major national artists like Cage the Elephant and ZZ Top. Locals can also head to the U.S. Air Force Academy’s Planetarium for year-round live talks and IMAX films in its dome theater. Arata says people also enjoy filling the seats at Clune Arena to cheer on the NCAA Division I Falcons Basketball Team. In the summer, the Western Museum of Mining and Industry—located 3 miles northwest—holds a Western Saloon Night to raise money for the museum. Visitors can come decked out in cowboy hats and boots to sample local whiskey, watch trick roping performances and listen to live music.Noise from Ford Amphitheater and wildfire risks
Being near Ford Amphitheater has its pros and cons. The venue has been the subject of noise complaints; since August of 2024, city officials and owners of the amphitheater have worked together to make plans to mitigate the noise. The Air Force Academy and Davis Airfield are nearby, but Arata says loud engine noise is only an issue a few times a year during various trainings. Homes in Middle Creek are also at risk of wildfire destruction, especially those closer to the northern border. The Colorado Springs Fire Department recommends creating a 15-foot distance between homes and any flammable lawn vegetation.
