Residential city surrounded by retail and recreation
Columbine sits about 14 miles south of Downtown Denver with an expansive suburban landscape. The community was put on the map in the 1950s and '60s when the Martin Company Missile Facility was built in Waterton. Now, the sprawling residential city is home to over 25,000 people. “It’s a very appealing area. Very family friendly for both young and old,” says Realtor Melinda Sanders with eXp Realty, who has seven years of experience and lives in the area. “You’re very close to retail centers but also close to Chatfield State Park.”
Columbine Corporation is headquartered in the city, providing geological well-site services. Other top industries include energy, technology, finance and scientific services.

Neighborhoods of single-family homes and townhouses
Columbine’s established neighborhoods are separated by winding trails and green spaces, with subdivisions shaded by mature trees. Columbine Hills, Columbine West and Columbine Knolls all have a wide range of housing types from the 1960s to 1990s, including ranch-style homes, split levels and traditional multi-story houses. Leawood and Vintage Reserve have multi-story Craftsman homes – some of which are new construction. The median price for these single-family properties is around $720,000, which is almost twice the national median price of $407,000. Communities of contemporary townhouses are found throughout the city. These properties share a median price of $435,000. “Home values are going up dramatically north of Coal Mine Avenue because homes are getting purchased and renovated," Sanders says. "Though, there are areas south of Ken Caryl Avenue that are more affordable."

Columbine is dotted with parks and green spaces tended by the Foothills Parks & Recreation District. Robert F. Clement Park has a reservoir for fishing and an outdoor amphitheater. “It’s a big park, and there’s always games going on. My son would have soccer practice at the park, and he used to love the skate park when he was younger,” Sanders says. There’s also the Columbine Sports Park, a baseball complex. The Columbine Trail is a paved path that travels through the city and connects to the Colorado Front Range Trail.
Chatfield State Park is an outdoors hotspot, located directly south of Columbine. There’s a full-service marina and a swimming beach along Chatfield Reservoir, as well as 26 miles of surrounding trails. The Chatfield Dog Park is an off-leash area.
