Cataula is a highly desirable area, says 20-year Realtor Alison Cox with Keller Williams River Cities. "When buyers are thinking about moving to Harris County, they're seeking privacy and lots of space," says Cox. "Houses here have to be on a minimum of one to two acres because of septic systems." Most homes are a mix of late 20th-century ranch-style homes and New Traditional houses, settled in secluded pockets of woods and pastureland. Other contemporary and New Traditional homes are located in laid-back subdivisions like the Maple Creek community. Prices here range from the mid-$300,000s to the low-$500,000s. Some larger homes may venture into the low $700,000s, depending on the amount of acreage.
