Brookshire
Suburban Neighborhood in Columbus, Ohio
Franklin County 43204, 43223
"A great place for first-time homebuyers"
Both neighborhoods have well-established homes that are in good shape. “In Brookshire Park, there are about 1,000 homes and in Brookshire South, probably around 300,” Ziglar says. “Brookshire Park has mainly ranch-style homes, usually around 1000-to-1300 square feet. Most of them have garages that were put in after the subdivisions were built.” The garages that were added on are usually separate from their houses. “There’s a combination of two-story, bi-levels and ranch-style homes in Brookshire South,” Ziglar says. The price point in Brookshire Park is between $175,000 and $250,000. In Brookshire South, prices run between $200,000 and $300,000. “It’s a great place for first-time homebuyers because the houses are affordable,” says Realtor Greg Skinner, who sells homes in the neighborhood with The Skinner Group. Most homes in Brookshire Park's older section have yet to be renovated. Ziglar says homebuyers know what they’re going to get. “If someone told me to go to a house there, I could tell you without going in that it has a finished basement, tile floors, a bar, three bedrooms and a bathroom. Everything’s standard there.”Greenspaces within walking distance
Lindbergh Park runs along Briggs Road and has almost nine acres of athletic fields and picnicking spots. It also has a playground. In 2016, fourth graders from Lindbergh Elementary School planted 11 trees for Arbor Day. Some of those trees were planted near the playground, which will provide more shade. A paved walking path forms the athletic field's perimeter. Hilltonia Park is just north of Eakin Road. It has athletic fields where children can play soccer and football.Public schools within the neighborhood
Lindbergh Park is between Lindbergh Elementary School and Briggs High School. Both are part of the Columbus City School District. Lindbergh Elementary has a 17-to-1 student-teacher ratio. The school also has specialized events throughout the year, including Pastries with Parents and a Winter Prince/Princess Ball. Kids move on to Hilltonia Middle School, which has a 13-to-1 student-teacher ratio. Briggs High School is across Briggs Road from Lindbergh Park. In the spring, students at Briggs High put on a multicultural arts festival. The event features dance, art and ethnic foods. All three schools have C-minus Niche ratings.Entertainment options in the downtown
The downtown has multiple entertainment options. Residents travel to Nationwide Arena to watch the Columbus Blue Jackets hit the ice. The Columbus Clippers, which is a Minor League Baseball team, plays at Huntington Park. The 2,791-seat Ohio Theatre, a Spanish-Baroque building, hosts modern dance and classical music performances. People travel 8 ½ miles northeast of Brookshire to watch the Bluejackets face off against other Big Ten Conference college football teams at Ohio Stadium.Getting around Columbus
“The neighborhood has very strong commuter access,” Skinner says. The Central Ohio Transit Authority operates bus routes that have stops on U.S. Highway 62 to the community’s east and Demorest Road to the community’s west. Residents travel 6 miles northeast to Downtown Columbus via U.S. Route 62.Local restaurants, chain restaurants and big-box retail
Brookshire has a valued nostalgic artifact, the local butcher. Whether beef, chicken or pork, the orders are cut fresh at Schuman’s Meats. Southwest Square Shopping Center on the community’s east end has a Kroger and restaurants like Wingstop, McDonald’s and Taco Bell. Phil & Young’s Tavern is a popular local dive where patrons shoot billiards and drink cold beer. Golden Fried Chicken & Fish serves exactly what it advertises. For home repair necessities, Zettler Hardware is just off Harrisburg Pike near the intersection with Eakin Road. The store has been family-owned and operated in Columbus since 1886. On the community’s west end, a cluster of stores includes a Walgreens, a Dollar General and a Boost Mobile.
