A fast-growing part of Columbus that is likely to grow even more soon, all because of a budding technology center in nearby New Albany. Central College is 17 miles — or a 20-minute drive — northeast of Columbus, with easy freeway access to downtown.

The technology company, Intel, is scheduled to open two semiconductor plants in New Albany in 2025, which will join Facebook, Google and Amazon. All three recently opened data centers within a 5-minute drive. “The area is great for young professionals. Anyone who wants to be in the New Albany area,” says Kristen Bell, a Realtor with ValEquity Real Estate. The two Intel plants are expected to bring 3,000 jobs.

Cornerstone Academy Community School is a public charter school in Central College that has received above-average scores in student progress and testing, according to GreatSchools. Students are also served by Avalon Elementary, Woodward Park Middle and Beechcroft High School, all earning a C-minus grade on Niche and part of Columbus City Schools. Beechcroft High is a football powerhouse and has reached the playoffs six times in the past 10 years.

Most of the homes in this area are built close together and were constructed in the early 2000s. Styles include neo-traditionals, modern Cape Cods and modern farmhouses. Demand is high. “Homes are in contract the same day they go on the market or within that weekend if priced appropriately," Bell says. A two-bedroom condo may start in the low $200,000s, while a 1,700-square-foot three-bedroom house with an attached garage sells in the $300,000 range. The median home sales price is $270,000, and properties stay on the market for an average of four days.

If you’re hungry and want to gather to watch the big game, The Goat New Albany is the place — there are plenty of televisions and even a sand volleyball court. Start your day at Morning Ritual by The Goat. It's owned by the same people in a separate location close by. Although morning is in the name, the restaurant serves coffee and breakfast until 10 p.m. For groceries, head to Market District on New Albany Road West for its fresh fish and produce, and prime meats.

When it comes time for a little fun, Captivating Worlds is a fan favorite. Described as beyond an escape room and an ideal team-building exercise, you and your group solve mysteries and puzzles as you try to figure your way out. The room will react to your success with special effects and, sometimes, even animated characters.

If you want to go downtown, there’s easy access to Route 161, a four-lane highway, that leads to Interstate 270 and other roads that direct you to the city.

A popular wedding venue in a picturesque location, Jorgensen Farms is still a reminder of the area’s past, even as the population of the surrounding area increases. The staff grows natural food that’s distributed locally. Those natural foods are front and center as they also cater events, including the weddings that take place on-site. Tour the fields and gardens and marvel at the beautiful flowers on display.

With Central College near a high-tech destination in the Columbus area, home values are expected to increase, and even more people are expected to move here. As Bell says, the change in that part of Columbus has been drastic. “If you had called me 10 years ago, the area would have been surrounded by farmland.”

GreatSchools: The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
