Family-oriented suburbs
Thick with trees and tidy lawns, the suburban neighborhood of Kendale evokes a sense of seclusion—exactly its goal, according to many locals. “It’s a calm area,” says Chris Cooley, a Realtor with Red 1 Realty. “It’s family-oriented, so during the day, there’s not a lot of people around with parents working and the kids at school.” Younger families especially have come to Kendale since the 1950s, taking advantage of lower real estate prices than comparable neighborhoods like Knolls-Thomas and Clintonville.
Kendale is a small neighborhood situated about eight miles north of downtown Columbus.
Interstate 315 connects Kendale with the Ohio State University and downtown Columbus.

Lower prices than similar suburbs
Tree-shaded culs-de-sac give the houses a sense of privacy. Midcentury homes occupy quarter-acre lots, often with attached two-car garages. With a median price of $450,000, houses in the area are less expensive than comparable homes in the nearby towns of Dublin or Upper Arlington. “People like being close to those areas, but housing is more affordable in Kendale,” Cooley says. Prices typically start in the low $300,000s for single-story, ranch-style houses. Prices for two-story, split-levels begin in the mid-$400,000s and peak in the mid-$500,000s with the addition of amenities like pools or covered patios.

Authentic Indian food at Dosa Corner
Dosa Corner is a family-owned, South Indian restaurant that offers dine-in or carryout on classics like potato curry, chana masala and biryani. The menu is fully vegetarian, so visitors shouldn’t expect to find butter chicken as an option. Open since 1978, Iacono’s is definitely not vegetarian, and specializes in handcrafted pizzas like the old world pepperoni and the bbq chicken. Kenny Centre and nearby Kenny Road are the homes of several shopping options, including fast food and the Tensuke Market, a Japanese grocery store.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
