Leawood brick and siding ranches
Most homes in Leawood are brick and siding ranches along narrow streets with sidewalks wide enough to fit one person. Many have a two-car garage or a carport, but it isn’t uncommon to find homes without either option. Some Colonial-style townhomes are available by Carlton Avenue, offering an alternative to single-family housing. “They were built as rowhouses for the military so they could access the Defense Supply Center in Columbus to the north,” Kagai says. “While most homes are in the $200,000 range, you can find homes below that, too. They’re going to be typically between 1,000 and 1,500 square feet.”Explore Big Walnut Park in Leawood
Big Walnut Park sits on the eastern portion of Leawood, offering residents access to its 136 acres. Big Walnut Creek runs through the park, and visitors can fish at the pond. Athletes can play at the park’s basketball and tennis courts or baseball diamonds. The park also has a trailhead for Big Walnut Trail, which connects Hoover Reservoir and Inniswood Metro Garden. Parts of the trail are still under construction, aiming to link more of the city’s green spaces. Far East Community Center is located at the park and offers art, dance and weight rooms. From April to December, the Mobile Produce Market sets up shop here, bringing a week’s supply of fresh produce to eligible families.CTE education through Columbus City Schools
For kindergarten through fifth grade, students attend Leawood Elementary School. After, they continue to Sherwood Middle School. Walnut Ridge High School allows students to enroll in Career-Technical Education (CTE) programs offered by the city to learn essential vocational skills. Niche awards all three schools a C-minus.Arts and music in downtown Columbus

The Jazz and Rib Festival combines jazz music with excellent barbeque for a culinary and musical experience. For the Fourth of July, the city hosts a festival downtown that ends with fireworks in the evening.Bus access throughout the neighborhood
Hamilton Road runs down the center of Leawood, with bus stops for the 24 bus lining the street. To the north, the 1 bus stops along Livingston Avenue. 1-70 runs along the neighborhood’s southern border, connecting it to downtown Columbus. The community is only 7 miles from John Glenn Columbus International Airport. The nearest hospital is Mount Carmel East, just 6 miles away.German bakeries and old-fashioned pharmacies in Leawood
Resch’s Bakery is a neighborhood staple founded by a German immigrant in 1913 and is still run by the family today. Here, locals can find fresh pastries and bakery items, from donuts to rolls and pretzels. They even offer seasonal donut flavors. White’s Pharmacy is another longtime business. "It's an old mom-and-pop pharmacy with customer service that you typically wouldn’t get if you’re going to another type of store with a pharmacy,” Kagai says. For a night out, Flavor 91 Bistro seasons their burgers with Ethiopian flavors and uses other meats, like lamb, for their burgers. Most grocery stores are within a 2-mile radius, including Kroger, Aldi and a Walmart Supercenter. Locals can get specialty goods at Saraga International Grocery store 1.8 miles away. Witten Farm Produce at Smith Farm Market is 4 miles away, offering fresh produce, flowers and bakery items all year.
