Why Olde Orchard appeals with contemporary homes and highway access

Tucked between three major highways, Olde Orchard is a Columbus neighborhood about 15 miles from the heart of the city. Its proximity to the interstate tends to appeal to commuters, with many east side job centers within a relatively short drive. Convenient access to shopping and dining makes the area appealing to homebuyers, along with a mix of well-maintained midcentury and newer homes.

Home styles and prices vary widely across the neighborhood

The streets here are shaded by countless conifers, maples and pines, and neatly landscaped yards are the norm. Homes avoid the cookie-cutter feel common in other neighborhoods and subdivisions, creating more variety for buyers. “…A lot of the homes were custom-built during the 1970s, so there are not many duplicates,” says Angela Harris, a Realtor with e-Merge Real Estate. “It’s unique because it doesn’t look like any other suburb.” She adds that newer developments have followed the same loose approach. “It would be sporadic and random, for example, if there were a vacant or empty lot in that area,” she says.

Midcentury Cape Cods, split-levels and ranch-style homes typically sell between the high $100,000s and the low $400,000s, while contemporary colonial and Craftsman designs often range from the low $300,000s to the mid-$400,000s. Custom 21st-century New Traditional homes usually sell between the high $300,000s and the low $600,000s, depending on size and features. Condos are another popular option and generally sell from the mid-$100,000s to the high $300,000s. The median price for a single-family home in Olde Orchard is in the high $300,000s, which is higher than Shady Lane, Livingston-McNaughten and Glenmeadows but usually less expensive than Greenbrier Farm.
