Welcome to Pine Hills!
Living in Pine Hills near I‑70, I‑270 and Big Walnut Creek
In Pine Hills, midcentury homes on modest lots line established, sidewalk-friendly streets, drawing buyers who want an old-school suburban feel while staying in Columbus. Near the junction of Interstates 70 and 270, some residents notice traffic noise, especially during rush hour, but that tradeoff comes with quick freeway access just minutes from their driveway. Homes on the neighborhood’s west side, bordered by dense woodland along Big Walnut Creek, typically feel quieter, with streets like Noe Bixby Road offering a tucked-away vibe. That said, with John Glenn Columbus International Airport roughly 10 miles away, the broader pace of the metro is never too far removed.
The neighborhood's midcentury look is thanks to vintage builds like split-levels homes.
Midcentury homes, small lots and quick-moving listings
Midcentury split-level and ranch-style houses are common in this corner of East Columbus, along with full basements, single-car garages and driveways. These vintage brick- and vinyl-sided homes occupy compact lots, with a bit of yard space or a broad strip of grass between homes. Mature oaks and maples bring pops of color to each street every spring, summer and fall. Patio chairs sit in front of many homes, whether there’s a porch or not, giving the streets a lived-in feel during warmer months.
Most residents here rent their homes. Pine Hills is a small community with limited inventory, so while sales aren’t frequent, listings tend to move quickly, often within a few weeks. Recent single-family sales have ranged from the high $100,000s to the mid-$200,000s, a price point comparable to nearby Shady Lane but generally lower than in neighborhoods like Walnut Hills, Greenbrier Farm and Olde Orchard. Larger floor plans, say, more than 2,000 square feet, aren’t typical, but when they list, prices can climb a bit higher.

There’s also interdistrict open enrollment for some out-of-city students, subject to capacity and policy.

Big Walnut Creek, bordered by protected woods, is on the west side, offering sound buffers and quiet, backstreet scenery.
From wooded reserves to Big Walnut Park and regional trails
A conservation area and parkland reserve sit between the neighborhood and Big Walnut Creek. They’re mostly wooded and focused on wildlife conservation, with a handful of informal trails winding through the trees. Most residents head to Big Walnut Park, roughly a mile away. Covering more than 130 acres, it features facilities for tennis, basketball and baseball, along with an off-leash dog park, a stocked fishing pond and a community center. From here, you can also access the city’s expansive greenway network, with the Big Walnut Trail following its namesake creek. Pedestrians and cyclists can follow the trail to additional green spaces nearby, including Elk Run Park, Hoover Reservoir Parkland and Three Creeks Park.
Easy access to local dining via Livingston Avenue and Main Street
Noe Bixby Road runs along the back of the neighborhood – the west side, away from the highway – winding past houses and an apartment complex in the neighborhood. To the north, it crosses Livingston Avenue and Main Street, making it easy to reach nearby shopping centers, everyday services and dining options. Local restaurants include:
Angelina’s Villa, less than a mile away, serving red-sauce-joint classics like Italian subs, pizza and lasagna
Poblano’s Mexican Restaurant and Bar, about a mile away, offering a menu ranging from salt-rimmed margaritas to hot enchiladas
The Point on Main Street, a little over a mile away, featuring pub fare, multiple flat-screens and game-day beer-bucket specials
Flavor 91 Bistro, nearly 2 miles away, blending American fare with Ethiopian-style seasoning and locally sourced ingredients, from grass-fed burgers to vegan sambusas
