Living in Preserve North

With small-town charm and tree-lined streets, the neighborhood of Preserve North offers a quiet suburban atmosphere near high-ranking schools. Located northeast of Columbus, many move here to have proximity to New Albany. "It's the school district," says Realtor Mary Sunderman of Keller Williams Capital Partners. "It's also just a positively idyllic community. It's a really beautiful place to live." Locals can take advantage of the school district while paying Columbus tax rates. The community is next door to New Albany Country Club, a sprawling golfing destination and residential area.

Homes in The Preserve or near the golf course

Primarily a residential neighborhood, Preserve North is named after The Preserve, a subdivision with nearly 500 homes built over the last 25 years. The community has quiet streets and outdoor spaces for gatherings. Most homes in the neighborhood range in price from $375,000 to $675,000. Condos, found along the southern edge, range from $350,000 to $400,000. Around the New Albany Country Club are Georgian-style homes and New Traditional mansions; these properties can leave the market between $1 million and $4 million.

Enjoying tennis and soccer at Thompson Park

Thompson Park, a 49-acre neighborhood space, has a playground, walking paths, soccer fields and an open-air pavilion for private events. The grounds include the New Albany Tennis Center, and residents can apply for a discounted membership. Locals should note that New Albany parks are not open to pets. About 5 miles away, in Westerville, awaits Rocky Fork Metro Park. With almost 1,200 acres of woodlands, the outdoor space is popular for its dog park, walking trails and horse trails.

Attending New Albany-Plain Local School District

Most Preserve North students are zoned for the New Albany-Plain Local School District. Prekindergarten and kindergarten students begin at New Albany Early Learning Center, which has an A-minus from Niche. A 200-acre learning campus houses the rest of the district's schools. New Albany Primary, Intermediate and Middle schools have A grades. The A-plus-rated New Albany High is listed among the top high schools in the state by U.S. News and World Report.

The exclusive New Albany Country Club

Built in 1992, New Albany Country Club features a 27-hole golf course designed by golf luminary Jack Nicklaus, who was born in Columbus. It also has a fitness center, tennis and pickleball courts and several swimming pools. The clubhouse provides an elegant setting for events, weddings and reunions.

Getting to downtown Columbus

From Preserve North, it's only about 15 miles to downtown Columbus attractions like the Arena District, German Village and the Columbus Museum of Art. The area does not have any public transportation. However, commuters can reach the closest Interstate 71 interchange in about 10 miles.

Shops, restaurants and bars on Hamilton Road

Heading down Hamilton Road leads to Aldi and Meijer grocery stores. The roadway also brings locals to shopping centers like New Albany Square and casual restaurants. Scramblers, a popular breakfast chain found only in Ohio and Michigan, serves classic American breakfast staples. Dueling Axes, a competitive axe-throwing lounge with a full-service bar, is a local hotspot for evening meetups. Large crowds gather at Turtle Creek Tavern for drink specials and live music on Fridays and Saturdays. The commercial area is also home to Columbus's first drive-through medicinal cannabis dispensary, opened in 2023.

We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
