Riverview is a Columbus neighborhood with a central location

As the name suggests, Riverview is a Columbus community that borders the Olentangy River. Most homes are farther inland, but the Olentangy Trail and parks mean you can spend plenty of time near the water. However, more people move here because of its proximity to The Ohio State University, which is just over a mile away. Students and professors alike can live within walking distance of the main campus while still having access to amenities such as restaurants and public transportation.

Renters and homeowners live together along the Olentangy River

Over 95% of Riverview’s residents are renters, and there are several apartment buildings throughout the neighborhood. Still, there are plenty of options to own. Most of the market consists of ranch-style homes from the mid-20th century. Houses typically come with two-car garages or carports, but there is room for street parking. Prices range from the mid-$200,000s to the mid-$300,000s. Realtor Phil Crawford with Howard Hanna Real Estate Services says the neighborhood’s prices have risen over the past few years. “For many years, it was one of the more affordable neighborhoods in the area, but recent renovations and updates have led to a jump in prices,” he says. Despite rising prices, the median single-family home price in Riverview – in the low $300,000s – is lower than in Cranbrook.

Researchers and nature lovers visit OSU's riverfront research park

The Wilma H. Schiermeier Olentangy River Wetland Research Park spans over 50 acres of green space along the Olentangy River. While its primary use is a research facility for OSU, the park’s trails and observation pavilion are open to the public. Nature lovers can spot over 150 species of wildlife, including birds like the Great Blue Heron. There are two access points to the 18-mile-long Olentangy Greenway Trail, a multiuse path that follows the river from Worthington to downtown Columbus. There’s also a pedestrian bridge that connects to Old North Columbus, which is home to Tuttle Park. There, you’ll find more traditional amenities like athletic fields, a playground and a community center.
