Willow Creek
Suburban Neighborhood in Columbus, Ohio
Franklin County 43123, 43223
Bedroom community with new builds in the works
Vennitti shares, “Willow Creek is a fine option in Central Ohio. I’ve lived north of Columbus almost all my life, but I moved down here with my wife and six children, and we’ve been as happy as we can be.” Despite being industrial in the north, Willow Creek is mainly residential, filled with interconnected cul-de-sac streets. Residents can stroll down the sidewalks and see older homes dating back to the 1960s and 1970s and modern homes from the turn of the century. Willow Creek prices typically range from $250,000 to $325,000. New construction has come to the area, with some still in the works and others built to completion. “The new build construction is more expensive than the existing homes, in the $350,000 range,” Vennitti says. The aesthetics of newer builds are more contemporary but still fit well with the split-level, ranch and traditional architectural styles of older homes. Across the board, properties come with two-car garages, short driveways and fairly large lawns that are kept trim and green.Gantz Park down the road is the go-to
When it’s time to unwind, families living close to Willow Creek Park can find some entertainment there. Parking is along Hardy Parkway, and the entrance leads to the playground, basketball courts and shelter house for picnicking. A paved walking and biking trail connects to the woods that lead to Scioto Big Run Creek. However, Hamrick shares that the real hotspot for recreation is Gantz Park. Not even 1/2 a mile away, Hamrick says that it’s one of the best parks in Grove City. “They have a great sledding hill, a community garden, a huge playground, lots of walking trails and tennis courts. That was like the place to go when I was a kid,” and it still is today. The park also features many gardens that serve as the site for educational workshops and annual plant sales. One of the gardens is even structured as a labyrinth.Freshmen welcomes by Link Leaders
Willow Creek is in the South-Western City School District. Harmon Elementary School is where students attend from pre-kindergarten through 4th grade, and it has a C-plus Niche rating. The school has received the Momentum Award three times from the Ohio Department of Education, which is given to schools for exceeding student growth expectations. Franklin Woods Intermediate School serves grades five and six, while Finland Middle School has seventh- and eighth-grade students. Both schools receive a C rating. Franklin Heights High School receives a B-minus score and welcomes its freshmen with a crew of Link Leaders — juniors and seniors who dedicate time toward supporting and mentoring incoming students.
At the crossroads of I-270 and I-71
Willow Creek is heavily car-dependent, and no public transit options are within walking distance. However, this fact makes the area’s location at the intersection of I-71 and I-270 all the more convenient. Venitti says, “What I like to tell people is that access to downtown from Willow Creek is 10 minutes, whereas north of Columbus, it’s closer to 20 minutes.” Although it can have its fair share of traffic and noise during rush hour, I-71 is a straight shot into the city center, helping commuters quickly get to work. For out-of-state travel, Rickenbaker International Airport is a little under 13 miles away.Shopping and dining outside industrial north
The northern portion of Willow Creek is entirely industrialized. “You’re not going there to shop. It’s where people work,” Realtor Thomas Hamrick of Keller Williams Consultants Realty says. “There’s a recycling plant and a water treatment plant off the 104.” Living close to industrial plants can raise concerns about noise or smell, but Hamrick visits the area often and says, “I don’t think I’ve ever noticed a smell over there since it’s a mile away.” The neighborhood’s only spot to grab a bite in the industrial area is Ari’s Diner, a highly rated eatery serving traditional American breakfast and lunch. Residents get their shopping done along Stringtown Road south of Interstate 270. Under 3 miles away are grocery and multipurpose retailers like Kroger, Aldi, Giant Eagle, Target and Walmart. Stringtown also houses a multitude of brand-name dining options. Locals can sit down for a meal at Smokey Bones, Longhorn Steakhouse, Roosters and Cracker Barrel. The area is also about 3-1/2 miles from Downtown Grove City, which offers a more diverse assortment of retail, restaurants and entertainment.
