Reunion
Subdivisions of newer, single-family homes
Many of Reunion’s neighborhoods were constructed in the early 2000s and 2010s by Shea Homes and have their own homeowners associations. Curving residential streets are wide, with sidewalks separated by grassy strips and lined with younger trees. New Traditional multi-story homes are common, with Craftsman-inspired features such as front gables, pointed roofs and brightly colored exteriors. These properties span 2,000 to 4,000 square feet and cost $500,000 to $850,000. Expansive estate-like properties surrounding the Buffalo Run Golf Course also feature Craftsman influences, get up to 6,000 square feet and are priced between $800,000 and $1.4 million.Oakwood Homes took over as the master developer in 2017 and continues to build modern-style houses. These new construction homes go for $325,000 to $550,000. Multi-family housing options are also found in the neighborhood as contemporary townhouses and condominiums. These properties span 1,000 to 1,500 square feet and have a similar price as the Oakwood Homes. “There has been a lot of building and new construction going on, so it’s an up-and-coming area,” says Realtor Nick Zimmerman with A to Z Realty, who has about 5 years of experience.
The CAP Index Crime Score for Reunion is 2 out of 10, which is low when compared to the national average of 4.
Recreation in neighborhood parks and the wildlife refuge
Reunion is dotted with green spaces. The area’s namesake park has a playground, an outdoor pool and a recreation center offering indoor recreation. Paved walking paths loop around three lakes and a large grassy field that’s used for movie nights and live music performances in the warmer months. Reunion Coffee House is in the easternmost section of Reunion Park, serving beverages and treats. “Everybody seems to go there and hang out,” Panariello says. “It has a wraparound porch and it’s right on one of the lakes, so you can sit out and watch people walk by or ride their bikes.” Multiple pocket parks with playground areas speckle the neighborhoods, including Heartland Park, Unity Park and Southlawn Park. Buffalo Run Golf Course is a public, 18-hole course in north Reunion. The Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge is accessible directly below the neighborhood. The refuge spans 15,000 acres, with over 20 miles of hiking and biking trails along grasslands, wetlands and woodlands. There’s also an 11-mile Wildlife Driving Tour through the landscape with a podcast that teaches visitors about the native bison, prairie dogs and deer populations.
Reunion’s family friendly activities and events
Reunion may be split into multiple subdivisions, but the community at large comes together for various events throughout the year. In addition to holiday get-togethers like the Fourth of July fireworks display and Easter egg hunt, the neighborhood has an extended list of summer activities. Reunion Park hosts movie nights, and the Reunion Recreation Center hosts food trucks on Tuesday evenings. There’s also the 88 Drive In Theatre, about 7 miles away, which is Denver’s last remaining original drive-in that shows a wide selection of family friendly films.Getting educated in 27J public schools
Children living in Reunion can attend public schools in Adam County’s School District 27J, which offer open enrollment. Reunion Elementary earns a B grade from Niche and provides an English Language Learners curriculum for bilingual students. From there, students can head to Stuart Middle School and Prairie View High School. Both receive C-plus grades. Prairie View offers specialized courses and internship opportunities through its STEM and Career and Technical Education Center.Commercial areas with shops and restaurants
Since Reunion is mostly residential, opportunities for shopping and dining are found in nearby strip malls and commercial intersections. Reunion Marketplace Center sits at the intersection of Chambers Road and East 104th Avenue and has well-known retailers such as Walgreens, Ace Hardware and King Soopers. Fast-food options in the area include Jersey Mike’s Subs, Panda Express and Popeye’s. Across the street, State House is a sports bar with an industrial theme that serves classic bar food and beverages. Patrons can listen to live music on the weekends on the outdoor patio.Reunion Village is a shopping center farther east along 104th Avenue and Tower Road. Yum Asian Fusion Cuisine and Sushi has a variety of international dishes. There are also fast-food options such as Starbucks and Del Taco.
Traveling in and around Reunion
With the area’s sprawling landscape and winding streets, a vehicle is needed to get around. Access to Interstate 76, known as the Heartland Expressway, and Colorado state Highway 2 is less than a mile west of the neighborhood. Regional Transportation District (RTD) buses have stops along 104th Avenue and 120th Avenue. Expressway 470 travels north and south, east of Reunion, and heads to Denver International Airport, about 3 miles away. Despite the airport’s proximity, the neighborhood does not experience noise from the air traffic. “We have a lot of pilots that live here. Pilots and flight attendants like to live out there so they can get to the airport really quick,” Panariello says.
